Relative pricing of music gear

Prices are absolutled f*ed in Australia on music gear. Out of curiousity, I compared the value of a bunch of monitors, at current exchange rates.

Behringer B3030A
US: 500/392 = 27% (cost 27% more here)
UK: 500/443 = 13%

KRK RP6
US: 750/476 = 57%
UK: 750/719 = 4%

Fostex PM1
US: 999/475 = 101%
UK: 999/597 = 67%

Yamaha MSP7
US: 1400/951 = 47%
UK: 1400/1694 = -17% (cost 17% less here)

Yamaha HS80M
US: 840/952 = -16%
UK: 840/779 = 7%

Dynaudio BM5A
US: 1695/1190 = 42%
UK: 1695/1656 = 2%

Adam A7
US: 1699/1367 = 24%
UK: 1699/1323 = 28%

Mackie HR624 MK2
US: 2399/1140 = 110%
UK: 2399/1244 = 92%

LOL @ anyone who bought HS80s in the USA! You could get MSP7s for $1 less.

Anywho... assuming that
- each company has similar economies of scale and
- each company has skilled engineers,
it is pretty clear which companies offer the best value for non-US residents. Food for thought, especially considering that most reviews are based on local value. I'd go as far as saying that the only monitors worth buying in Australia are Behringers, HS80Ms or Adam A7s.

Seems like for some things it's cheaper to buy over-sees and have it shipped in.

We do this as much as possible

I got my Audiofire 4 for half the price they sell for in Australia.

echosystem i know the feeling residing in south australia. Im here in the states now and im buying up some hardware etc purely to bring back and sell. Virus (second hand) is a prime example, in most cases they sell for less here due to the demand: and more people more viruses etc.

check out apple.us and apple.com.au for australia its staggering the differences in price on apple gear as well: just over 400australian dollars difference on Imac 24 if purchased in the states. And, if you look at the G5 quad cores it gets up to a 1000 dollars in savings.

Australia = island prices
