My Netgear router died the other day. I ended up replacing it with a Linksys WRT-54G2, at a local store because I needed it right away. I wasn't crazy about the new design with interior antenna, I also prefer smaller foot print of vertical layout.
I'm surprised for a technology that's 6 years old (G protocol), they're still commanding $50. Wasn't going to spend an extra $20 for N because we aren't into gaming. Seems like wireless routers tend only last 3-5yrs. I'm not sure why a solid state device should fail.
Btw, anyone know how to change the administrator login user name? By default it's blank. I was able to change the password but couldn't find user name setting?

I've got a Billion 7401VGP-M. When I bought it the chipset was considered one of the best for handling p2p applicatons and I haven't had an problems with it. Though these days I guess youd want one that is 802.11n compatible.

And as far as I know, Wireless N just helps (somewhat) with range, not really the speed or anything.

Nope, it is max of 600Mbps with a consistent throughput of around 150Mbps.
