It sounds nice enough, but at the end of the day you might as well just put on a Boards Of Canada-record or give Selected Ambient Works II another spin. The oldschool Warp-influence is just so painfully obvious.

you think so - i dont think it sounds anything like BOC - it sounds alot more digital and robotic....

im getting goosepimples from this one - what a perfect way to end a set, or even for some peak time buzz.

I also classify Ochre as one of those numerous acts such as Arovane, Bola, I Am Robot And Proud, Lali Puna, Christian Kleine, MD etc. whose music sounds pretty (sometimes even too pretty), but doesn't bring anything new to the table. For exapmle, if A Midsummer Nice Dream was released 10 years prior to its actual release date (when Autechre and Beaumont Hannant were shaping that sound), it would be considered masterpiece. Since it's not, it's just another album in a line of similitude and all you can say about it is that it sounds nice. I personally don't think we should be acknowledging music like that.

BTW, when it comes to BoC, I think that Christ. does much better job at copying them than Ochre.

Agreed, I somehow don't find his material quite as harmless. His PA at Bloc 2008 is a good example, it's a lot more stripped down and rough.

I don't agree with chucking Bola in that group you mentioned, however, as he was producing and releasing records pretty much at the same time as the Warp-guys established THAT part of IDM (as much as I hate that term).

Christ. is coming out with a new album in September I think. It'll be interesting to see if he's finally decided to step out of BoC shadow. However I don't think many will complain if he doesn't, since people are more than glad to see someone continuing BoC legacy now that they no longer release.

About Bola, yeah that was a bit unfair to him, especially since he was there at the time IDM was forming (mostly assisting to Ae though), but I was mainly talking about his albums which all (with the exception of Soup maybe) belong to that "nice, but nothing groundbreaking" group.
