Quick reply needed, Traktor Control CD's Vs. Vinyl
So I've landed myself a gig that's starting in 2 hours at a bar tonight that's hosting a silent disco.
Problem is I play on control vinyl, and because i've never played on cdj's with my control cd's i was wondering if there's anything i need to be aware of.
Do they react in the same way, Obviously cue, Play etc. But should i avoid using the cue? Has anyone run into problems?
Keep the master tempo switched off. I know that.
Can you hot cue?
Should i keep it on Absolute mode or relative as needle jumping isn't a problem with the cdj's.
Thanks lads.

Well i'll have to learn on the fly as i wont have any time to have a mess around on it.
Pity I didn't have more time to lob this question up here.
Talk to you after the gig

Absolute.
If you put it in relative mode, when you hit cue on the CDj it will just pause- it will not return to your cue/start point.. you have to manually restart it on your laptop if you have it in relative mode which isn't ideal!
You wouldn't believe how many DJS i encounter who don't know this and then moan to the engineer (in this instance being me) that it is broken as it wont return to the cue point. Muppets.
Yes in absolute mode you can hot cue (and hot loop if CDj1000mk3s) with no problems..you can also use the CDJ loop function as normal (including the in/out adjust). Again, you can do none of these in relative mode.
All of the above apply to serato as well as Traktor

Well I'm back..
Thanks for the info Freak.
Disaster struck when i was setting up my gear. For some reason the CDJ's were playing but i could hear the control tone coming through. Went over all my connections etc but no joy.
I'd never handled a cdj1000 before (in the 4 years i've been bedroom dj'ing) so wasn't 100% sure on every single setting although i thought it would have been a simple changeover of the Leads more than anything else.
Anyway, end of the day i just used the laptop to dj instead which did the trick but wasn't ideal as i don't religiously beatgrid my tracks.
Anyway, the promoters were very happy (it was a silent disco) and i've been asked back to do another one on Friday which is in a shop front window on the main shopping street in dublin which is quite cool
I need to find someone with some cdj's so i can have a go at setting traktor up on it.

Thanks mate,
I've got another gig lined up tonight supporting Japanese Popstars (irish lads who are pretty big over here) and Felix da Housecat.
Only a quick 30min unpaid gig but it's in one of the biggest clubs in Dublin so stoked to be able to play there
Quick Question about the CDJ's though and Traktor. If you want to use the looping within Traktor you'd switch to relative mode like you would on vinyl yeh?
