Seriously. I know that it isn't trendy right now to produce music with a good groove. Rather, the "in thing" is to have a rhythm that insists exclusively of an incessant, invariable kick drum and a bunch of clicking noises that sound somewhere between walking with a box of tic-tacs in your pocket and a chip going down the Plinko board. It gets really, really boring.
Even at the shows that I've been to recently where most of the crowd is the same group of house junkies I always see, people get bored, the dance floor is more empty than ever, and people leave early.
Honestly, with the dance music that is in vogue right now, I can understand why most people don't like house. (To be fair, there is a lot of great tech-house and techno out there that has some funk to it but not much of it is being played right now.) I find it ironic that dance music is gravitating to a state where it becoming less and less danceable.
We need to bring back the funk! We have enough influential people on this board that we can make it happen. (Including a choice few who very rarely post here but who I know are reading this. ) Let's give people a reason to like this shit!

Personally, the stuff Lawler is putting out at the moment I'm finding much nicer than a lot of the other stuff that's being played.
I'm just using him (a big name) as an example though.
Was at a festival two weeks ago and he played around 2pm and it put a smile on everyone's faces. Really nice bouncy, warm feeling kind of sound. I'm sure you know what I mean.
Not only that but I think women like dancing to it more compared to something that might be a little harder. Not that I don't like when the roof is blown off a place but anyway, just thought I'd contribute and agree with what you're saying.

I wouldn't describe it the way the threadstarter did; I call it boring goomba-stomp house. Just techno with a dumb prog beat.
Desyn Masiello played nothing but that stuff when he was here last week. I left an hour and a half after I got there.
I miss thick and dynamic basslines :/

I have been following Tiesto since 99. I was immediately enthralled by what I still regard the best electronic CD ever compiled, Magik VI Live in Amsterdam. This CD is loaded with uplifting, energetic, blood moving tracks intricately mixed with angelic perfection. From that moment on, I could feel the magik flowing through my veins while listening to the music that Tijs carefully samples and produces. His creativity allows him to develop the concepts of songs that bring life and energy to people around the world.

Levels is...decent...damn better than a lot of the shite dominating the charts at the moment. It sounds absolutely nothing like...a billion and one similar tracks in this big-room style. I always had a soft spot.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to download some of his recent sets.

perception of trends is completely arbitrary. you're a dj, take advantage of that and play what you want/what gets people moving!
"A studio environment is there to be exploited. I don't really hold with these 'all live on 2 decks mixes'. If you want that, go to the gig." - Ben Watt
