Which part of the '90s do you like?

Tie-dye t-shirts and parachute pants? Bowl haircuts?

Trance music?

Let this continue as a nostalgia thread...

28.8 K modems and that beautiful sound they made when booting up?

I have to say I'm getting tired of thinking about the 90s and sighing plaintively. Now's the time to make history, not wistfully look back on it.

That mentality is fine if you're someone with the talent to make history. But the untalented just have to wait for something great to happen, or flail uselessly trying to accomplish something outside our reach.

I was half-joking anyway. Is anyone really nostalgic about 28.8 K modems?

Although when that dodgy modem finally managed to download a song from Napster, it did feel like an accomplishment of sorts. Getting decent speeds was a struggle.

I'm talking more generally. I don't want to criticise you, because I value your opinions and I respect you, but I think you spend far too much time being negative about modern music and culture and being unrealistically nostalgic about an idealised past.

Oh, I know I do, although I don't think I'm "unrealistic" about my nostalgia. I recognize that I am filtering out the crap music from my knowledge of the '90s and choosing to think only about the good stuff. But I could definitely do with less time spent pining over the past and more time finding good current music and hacking away at my own efforts.
