going to be playing on CDJ 1000s for the first time

I've had my techs for many years. i can beat match rather easily...but i'm playing at a stag and doe for my buddy and the venue has cdjs.

How easy is the transition?

I played on some for the first time a few weeks ago after having played on vinyl + DVS system for 5 years.

I had no problems what so ever. In fact it was a hell of a lot easier than i thought it was going to be. Flicking the jog wheel (well the rotary thing beneath the job wheel) makes it so easy to make small changes, as opposed to vinyl where you have to be a little more careful with how much pressure you apply etc.

One thing i will say is when you're 'pushing/pulling' the track (winding forward etc) makes sure you don't hit the top of the platter as this just stops the track dead as if you wanted to start scratching. I only did it once but it threw me off my mix for a few seconds until i recued it.

Anyway, you'll be more than fine. You might actually enjoy it

That can be avoided by switching the deck into "CDJ" mode on the "JOG MODE". Meaning you can't scatch, but the top of the platter is not affected when pressure is applied.

True

I left it on vinyl mode though as i prefer it coming from a vinyl system. CDJ mode feels awkward and horrible to me. Though i do understand it's advantages etc. All personal preference..

strongly agree to that. I always use vinyl mode unless in a club and there are drunk ppl waving their hands near the booth.

Never thought of using it as a fail safe like that. Good tip!
