Check out the dual core Lenovo's on newegg. $450...crazy deals right now. I paid $450 3 weeks ago for the Lenovo S12 Netbook and you can get a damn laptop with dual layer dvd burner for that. Love it.

or with the boat load of money that you save by buying something that isn't a mac and has the same or more ram, you could splurge on a record binge too.

i swear by toshiba...i had a mac, the difference in price made me glad that steve jobs has cancer.

Just about anything that you can buy for $1500 right now will sufficiently handle Traktor and Ableton.

I love my Macbook, but I wouldn't recommend spending $1500 to get a lower end Mac. Probably are better off getting a feature-loaded PC, or taking lenazi's suggestion of a record binge.

I happen to like Dell laptops, personally. Dislike HP's. I have had repeated bad experience with them (I do IT support for a living.)

jay - anything in particular i should be looking at with toshiba?

d.m - what dell?

yeah i'm not high on mac's either. i could get a refurbished one, but i'd rather grab something new and save some money. jay's record binge is definitely a good idea.

Any, really. Just depends on how high you wanna spec and how much you wanna spend. I have experience with Latitudes, mostly (which is the business equivalent of the Inspiron), and they served me well for a few years, playing out with Traktor. I produce on a dedicated desktop machine, though... but the specs aren't terribly crazy on it anyway.

Mainly, get a halfway decent machine and pair it with a decent audio interface and ASIO drivers for the production aspect, and you're golden. People spend too much time worrying about this, when most of the issues people have are software-based in the first place.

Refurbished MacBook Pro should run you about 1300, use the extra 200 to upgrade the RAM & buy an 8ball to celebrate.

imo

edit // or not. I used to have issues with Macs just like everyone else, finally caved and got a refurbished one and I haven't looked back. My place looks like I knocked over an Apple Store.

pretty straight forward denys.

(i bought mine last year, i have no clue what they offering now). Lokk for the best bundle for the best price. Serato has never crashed on me, i have never gotten a virus...and so on. You could do like bas says and pay 1300$ for a used cpu that looks pretty or even less for a new one with more power

don't believe the hype, because as good as macs are they are a cash trap.

As long as Toshiba is running a Windows OS you'll always have problems
