What sound cards does everyone use or recommend?

Hi peeps,

after some techincal problems with my soundcard, im lloking for a good sound card to add to my setup.

Im looking for a good quality soundcard that offers hi quality in's + out's and is fairly easy to install. Software + extras are NOT a must.

Im looking at these at the moment:

1) - Hoontech/Staudio DSP24 ~ very cheap £110 and seems good quality
2) - Echo Mia ~ most expensive but has balanced jack I/O
3) - Terratec EWX 24/96 - general middle one @ £135
4) - M Audiophile 24/96 - at bottom cos dont need midi (gonna get midex 3)

Ill probably go for the hoontech as its cheap and does seem to be very good quality. It'll also give me more money for a virus b

What does everyone recommend or use?

I have the M-Audio Delta 44 and its great. Perfect, clear, and crisp sound quality. 2 pairs of 1/4 outs and 2 pairs ins. My S/N ratio is around 85dB, which is very good in my opinion (will depend on ur cpu and where u install the pci card.)

And it was extreemly easy to install.. just thow in the PCI card, hook up the external break out box, and download the latest drivers (off internet or CD) and ur good to go.

Highly recommended.

If you are not for a high end audio system and want a card to support everything, be cool and offer high quality u might as well go for the SoundBlaster Audigy.
It gives 24bit/96 khz and it has a firewire port too(the simple version,if you add the panel it gives you 2 and other stuff and you rule!)
As for every other application,it'll get you as far as you want.
Should you be going for a professional card u might consider Chrono's suggestion.
later m8

I'm thinking of getting the M-Audio delta 44 or Audiophile in the coming days.

Im pretty sure it only gives this for playback, and recording is still at 16/44.

Cheers for your suggestions, but im gonna go for the echo card because its got mutli client drivers, so i can run vaz modular and cubase at the same time.

Its easy to install and has some of the least problems compared to other cards ( so that ive read on various music sites). And its got balanced jack I/O which is gonna give hi sound quality. Bit expensive though

thats a good choice! just to let u know the Delta 44 supports multi client drivers aswell, I can run as many music programs as I want all at the same time.. plus balanced 1/4" ins and outs.

The Echo is great if you plan on using multiple softsynths at the same time. You can assign each softsynth to one of 8 virtual outputs. The only drawback with it is that it doesn't have a midi interface onboard (if you have external gear, then you'll have to pick up a seperate midi interface to run it all).
I personally use the Audiophile and it's great...
{edit} just re-read your original post and saw that you don't need midi. the echo will be great for you! {/edit}

Yes it records on 16 bit 42Khz max.
I think the sound qualety is good and it has a low latency when you use the ASIO driver. great for softsynths and audio recording.

I use an audigy platinum Ex and it works great for me.

Hoontech/Staudio DSP24 has same chip as Terratec EWX 24/96 and perhabs better board. So it's the best from the list.

At least as far as I know it has a knob for input amplification and the same quality inputs as terratec.

I got me a m-audio quattro which seems to do the job, chose it over the delta-44 just coz its got a midi in and out. Does some strange things at times but only if you put the wrong settings in.
