Ripping Vinyl

Ive gotten rid of my 800's and plan on purchasing 1 or 2 1200 mk2's.
The main reason is do HIGH quality vinyl transfers to mp3. I already have a motu ultralite soundcard but I still need a phono pre amp and cartridge. Does anyone have any good advice for this? Don't forget its for HIGH QUALITY ripping.

I'd get a dj mixer with digital out, and plug that right into the Ultralite's S/PDIF IN. Or you could use two audio ins and a cheap phono amp from a store like Radio Shack.

Record the record into some program, throw the wav into Live, do some warping to remove wow and flutter, do some normalization and compressing (I used a suite by MAGIX), and render to mp3.

Don't I need a phono pre amp before putting the signal into the mixer no matter what?

its just me, but i wouldn't compress after ripping it. just make sure your not clipping.

when i ripped my vinyl, i just went from my mixer to my soundcard's line in. made sure my tracks were peaking well below 0db, then boost the gains them in audacity to about -1 db.

Make sure the pre amp has RIAA equalization. It is usually requirement for ripping vinyl. It improves sound quality.
