It was good when ti first launched but then after a point they played the same playlist for like three or four years, with the occasional new song pushed into the playlist.

Is it still Energy 92.7, just with a different playlist, or has it completely switched to something else?

Either way that station was horrible. I can't think of a station that dissappointed me more than they did. At first I was like "OMG EDM on the radio!" but it turned out to just be horrifically bad commercial house 24/7. Even 94.9 has better music. Significantly better.

yup yup, its now called REVOLUTION 92.7, apparently the company was sold to another business entity, with out any warning they just switched i think sept 10.

kinda like the station, well except the fact their playlist effin plays for the eternal time. lol.

the night shows like the clubbing commute is great, i would here some tech house mixes late sunday night as well.

i think they are still broadcasting via their website. lot of people back here were shocked of what happend.

i listened to 92.7 when it first launched. I thought it was a great station. But I moved to the south bay soon after - and I was never able to get it down here - other than through comcasts music channel. I listened a few times, and wasn't too impressed anymore.

bought for $33mil a few years ago, sold for $6mil a couple weeks ago. ouch! with radio, when you're physically limited by the number of stations on the FM dial you gotta have a competitive number of listeners to keep well paying advertisers, and i don't think dance music could compete in any market. being the third or fourth most listened to top40 station in a market is still probably more profitable than being the #1 dance music station. and 92.7 also had one of the weakest signals in the bay area for an FM station, making its potential advertising reach even smaller = cheaper ads = smaller profits = bye bye

When you drove through Castro Valley, Energy 92.7 woudl instantly switch to a country station that I think was on the Cali/Nev border or something. they'd have weather for counties way out there lol

sounds about right, their broadcast signal was really weak. But then again, I am not so sure country boys out there in tracy (way beyond castro valley) would tune into such a station. So maybe a weak signal was by design, to only cater to just the immediate SF area.

maybe that too, with all those FCC regulations that put limits on how many stations corporations can have in a region...

no loss whatsoever. energy 92.7 played shit music 24/7. not even people with genuine edm tastes could stand their cheesy, commercial and contrived range of sounds. it's better to not have a 'dance music' channel than to have one that paints dance music in that light. every time i was made to listen to that channel, i wanted to throw myself through the window. like cable tv, 99% of the stuff on the radio is horse shit anyway, but the one music channel i'll tune into from time to time is stanford kzsu because they actually search for different music to play and offer a very diverse range of sounds rather than going off a chart or putting a finger in the air to see which way the wind is blowing. i've heard tech house, downtempo, freestyle, reggae and strange ethnic music, which is all good for low background music. more often though i listen to kqed public radio because it you can actually learn a thing or two and some of the shows like car talk are funny as hell.

Dude.. being from SoCal born and raised… KDL 103.1 was WAY more cheesier than 92.7 and even I liked that station when it still was around. You know how crappy it is to hear the same 6 songs played over and over again on the top 6 stations? I don’t know how much more I can take off the “We Run LA” and that damn Taylor Swift song ..shoot me.

Sad to hear 92.7 changed playlist. I use to always look forward to turning on the radio and hearing some type of non-hiphop/pop/rock song when I’d visit up north.

well this is the problem with radio... the media conglomerates conduct their market research and determine their target audience is females age 13-24 and the average listening time is like 15 minutes, thus they cater to what young girls want to hear, which is usually catchy and familiar commercial pop and they understand the average listening cycle is around 3 tracks so as long as they vary the selection more than that, they've served their market and can thus deliver an audience to their customers. the model of mass media whether you're talking about television, magazines or radio is that we are the product, the media is the packaging and the advertiser is the customer. that's why i can only put up with public and independent radio and will never be the ideal product for mass media conglomerates.
