I need to write a paper about how one concept of a nursing theorist's work relates to practice. I have chosen Leininger's theory of transcultural nursing.

I have to include in the appendix a scenario that relates to the application of this theory (my paper is going to be developed from this scenario), except I haven't had any personal experience trying to meet the care needs of someone with a vastly different culture than mine.

We *are* allowed to make up a scenario, but the only thing I can think of is Jehova's Witnesses and blood transfusions.

So what I'm wondering is, are there any peeps in the c0re who's cultural needs/values would cause conflict in a traditional/Western care setting? Tell me about your cultural beliefs/practices/values!

Feel free to throw ideas out there too.

yea i can only think of Jehova's too.

there was an episode of House that had to do with this i think, i can't remember the details though lol

Could you tell us a bit more about this theory? I live in a different continent, speak a different language, but I'm not sure what kind of cultural differences could be useful to you.

Would patients that would rather be operated by spiritual doctors be of any relevance to your scenario?

Yes of course it's relevant. All your differences are relevant. Ummm, I dunno if this helps or makes sense...but it's Leininger's Sunrise theoretical/conceptual model...which is used as a tool to work through culturally sensitive care situations.

How 'bout traditional nursing and acupuncture? You were talking about it just days ago.

Edit 2: Well, I know some people down here would rather be (also) operated by a spiritual doctor, dodgy as it is. I'm sure that may happen in the US as well, and it could be an interesting topic
