A two part question...

What would you classify this sound as? Progressive? Nu-disco?

Really, and I mean REALLY, digging this particular sound @ the moment. Wondering if anyone can suggest more stuff like this. Driving synths, not very "organic" sounding. A little 80's effects in there... Good shit.

It sounds like one of those key generator tunes.

edit: not really though. It sounded a bit like 2007 Progressive House. It reminded me of some Claes Rosen tunes.

I'm starting to dig this "Nu-Disco" stuff too.

Check out Jody's recent Way Out There mix dedicated to that sound:

Is this a new track? Digweed used to spin stuff like this around 2002-2003, the big arpeggiated synth stuff. Didn't think people still made it

I guess it's "nu-disco" now? lol

Wouldn't call it Nu-Disco. I agree with Frenkieee, it sounds a lot like Claes Rosen productions.

Back in early 2008 -- like, the last time I was on Tranceaddict -- I considered this all part of a looming italo-disco revival. I'm kind of disappointed that it still hasn't broken through two seasons later, but minimal can't quite let go.

Kris Menace is your friend. Almost everything he has produced is like this; download it all. (Mikey Mike first tipped me off in 2007, with Lumberjack.) Rude 66 - 1000 Year Storm is also good (it was tracklisted by Danny Howells in March 2008. I have no idea if he continued to play anything like this, as I've been unplugged for well over a year.) Legowelt has other productions, famously Disco Rout, that are more techno but close enough.

Some quick googling reveals that the press is moving toward the label Nu-Disco, and rolling a whole lot of other unclassifiable stuff into the box, most of it rather housey and devoid of the quirky italo/cosmic vibe. We'll see.

Isn't nu-disco the stuff that Lovebirds and the likes are producing/playing?

i think it's more deep house with Lovebirds.

part of the reason why I'm asking the question is because i feel like beatport lumps a lot of stuff (as previously mentioned) into the "nu-disco" genre... or they call it "indie" other times. not that i pay attention to it. really dig the legowelt stuff i've looked up just now.

and bas is onto something, it does sound like some of the stuff digweed used to jam a couple of years back.

a little background on the track - found it in a James Holden set - Live @ Border Community Night @ Club Rex, Paris.

The tail end of it, and sprinkled thoughtout, are a lot of tunes like this. Really digging the sound and want to incorporate it into my own late night excursions through baltimore.

I get the same feeling, but with deep house instead. For example, I consider the latest DJ Sprinkles album (Midtown 120 Blues) to be 'real' deep house. But that sound differs a lot from Lovebirds tracks/sets, which is being called deep house too (by you, for example, but by many others too). But there are tons of other tracks that are called deep house which I don't really consider as such.

And then you get to the same discussion that has been held over and over again.

that bassline makes it Italo, but a more modern version.
here's some more stuff in that vein

might also want to look for a track: Elektrokid - Never Let The Party Stop
