Loud buzzing in one of Rokit's

UGH! I'm so mad...

So last night I'm sitting home working on a track when my roommate comes in and says "Hey let's goto Atlantic City." (City in NJ with Casinos for anyone unfamiliar)... Anyways I was gone for about 6 or 7 hours and when we got home I seemed to have left my Rokit 5s on and there was this horribly loud buzzing sound coming from one of them. I mean ear piercing loud, not the normal 'my power cable is touching the RCA' noise. Even if I unplug the RCA cable from the back it's still doing it.

Any ideas what might have happended?

Bleh and on top of it I lost like $200 playing Roulette haha.

Should have stayed home...

Sorry to hear it man.

First try using a diferrent IEC powercable.

Next, most speakers have slowblow fuses - if it has a replaceable fuse (which I beleive it does) go get the exact one from an electrical store and try it. TAKE THE OLD FUSE WITH YOU. Slowblows can sometimes have partial connection so this could be the cause.

Other than that, it sounds like the amp has problems and unless you're good with electronics, it's time to take it to the service center.

How old are they - sometimes telling the manufacturer/distributor that it died under normal operation can get you a free fix.

if the speaker has a gain knob on it, turn it all the way down and see if it effects the buzzing

Hey thanks everyone...

The gain knob does nothing to the sound, nor does changing the power cable or plugging it in elsewhere in the house.

RANN, you're probably right, I called KRK and they said its most likely the amp inside. A new one is $85 + $10 shipping so I'm probably just going to go ahead and order that.

Unfortunately they're about 3 or 4 years old so the warranty (even the extended warranty I purchased) is expired now.

Actually you know what, maybe I'll go back to Guitar Center where I bought them (amongst thousands of dollars of gear) and have a tittie attack in the store and see if they'll do anything for me.

one thing is the warranty provided by the seller. another thing is the law that says that every item sold has an expected life-time and 3-4 years for a speaker is not near the span that is expected so u might get help anyway. in our country u can deliver back a cellfone in 5 years eventhough the seller only provide 2years of warranty. (new law here btw), probably doesnt apply in other countries.

My jbl did exactly the same thing but when I pumped it out it started all over again.....it was only a few weeks old so back to GC it went.

You could be alright though, I've seen stuff like this just clear up.
