Problem Modding Technics 1200

Was trying to modify my technics 1200 mk2 to make the pitch range +/- 3. Tried doing this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ywHNX58S1A

Didn't work as planned.

Heres what the affect was after doing what the dude said to do in the video:

Say I have a track thats 125 BPM. When the pitch fader is set at 0, it played at 125 BPM like it is supposed to. However, when I moved the pitch slider down (to increase the pitch), it actually slowed down the platter to make the record go down to like 123 BPM, but as I continued to move the pitch slider down the BPM did increase back up to 125, and then kept going all the way up to 133 for instance. Also, the pitch range was definitely more than +/- 3 as I could get a 125bpm song up to about 133-134ish. BTW I am using it with traktor, which is how I know what BPM it is going to.

Has anyone else tried this mod? Have you been successful? Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Yep, you're fucking about with stuff you've got no idea on.

I've not watched the vid, but if I were you I'd try and undo what you've done, and leave it at that.

I dunno Jarv, I'm all for trying something new. As long as you don't mind wrecking whatever you're messing about on.

I popped the back of my MBP's screen off to change the colour of my wee apple logo to red just for shits and giggles.
Granted it not something that could have gone terribly wrong but I'm about to take my laptop apart to install a larger hard drive and I know a lot of people who'd shy away from that.

I haven't got time to look at the vid at the moment but i'll have a look later and throw some ideas about.

The symptoms you describe make me believe that in the process you've created a second zero point. This is actually a relatively easy fix which you should be able to if you were confident enough to do the pitch mod to begin with.

I'm not familiar with the process but there are plenty of tutorials and any local shop can do this in a few minutes. I just don't know if in the process of fixing the multiple zero points issue you would be undoing the mod.

Good luck.

Edit to add:

I would be wary of using Traktor to gauge the BPMs. Especially for a hardware mod you want to use the tempo strobe on the platter to see what it's doing to the pitch. Not that Traktor is innacurate by any means, but the hardware itself will give you a better indicator of what is happening.
