Smiley DJ inPSYsors - a psychedelic (?) mix chewed up by THC

I'd been revisiting some older stuff and found enough inspiration to throw together another mix. The only real "PSY" track is at the end, though there's enough PSY elements to justify calling it a PSY set.

inPSYsors - a PSYchedelic mix chewed up by TwoHardCore
01. Feuerhake - Elmazing Vibes
02. Day.Din - Halkidiki
03. Ovnimoon - Dual Nash
04. Neelix - I Didn't Mean to Cry ←
05. Feuerhake - No (DJ Feuerhake remix)
06. Chris Pointdexter - Darkness (Ticon remix)
07. Protonica - Upstream (Progenitor remix)
08. Ritmo - Wake Up
09. Nok vs Ritmo - Multistop
10. ARW - Searching for New Levels
11. Ace Ventura - The Spark ←
12. Symphonix - Paradise ← ←
13. Day.Din & Alfredo Garcia - Ghost (Bitmonx & DJ Fabio remix)
14. V-Tunes - Electra
15. Nasa - Legolam
16. System Nipel - Russian Gangsters

As always, feedback is welcome though not necessary.

Enjoy,

Nah, most of these artists do progressive psy, so it can be clearly classified as prog-psy!

Never heard these tracks before, so I may be incorrect. Definitely doing this.

As far as I can remember, there were relatively no PSY sets available here on TA during the time these tracks were made ("relatively" is a pretty loose term), so it's no surprise you may not have heard them. There's a few gems, but my favorite of the bunch is definitely Symphonix - Paradise. I'm a huge fan of Feuerhake, so I threw in a couple oldies from him.

I think I did a better job mixing PSYde effects, but this one is still pretty good IMO. Hope you enjoy(ed) it.

Gotta love Ticon !! Everything they produced back then was pure gold!

Cheers,

Tracklist looks very nice. I will download the set and leave proper feedback when I listen to it fully!

Very nice proggy set. Track selection is top notch and they flow very good together. I liked the classics as well as the new tracks, a few of which I havent heard. Mixing was quite ok, only the two first transitions were a bit too fast but then I dont have much complains.

The biggest plus in my books however is that you kept pushing the tempo, never letting it go. It got me groovin through the whole set!

Thanks for checking it out Magadansky. Glad you enjoyed the set and the tracks and came back to leave some comments. I noticed you've also got a recent set available which I'll be checking out some time this week.

Cheers,

THC

Sorry dude, I didn't enjoy this mix much. In particular I really hated the Neelix track - the vocal, melody, percussion - everything.

I also felt that the flow was all over the place. At the 11 minute mark you had something close to full-on psy trance playing, then at the 13 minute mark it was essentially tech-house. This was corrected in the middle but then I felt it was up and down again at the end - the track around the 60 minute mark seemed really displaced.

However, I did enjoy some of the individual tracks in this set and the mixing wasn't too bad. I very much enjoyed the Nasa track and I think it sounds perfect to complete a set I've been trying to put together for about 6 months now. Thanks for that!

Overall not too badder effort, but I think you can do a lot better.

Ah well, I thought based on a comment you made in one of your posts that you like "bangin progressive" sound that you'd like this.

I'm not sure I agree with your comment about the flow being all over the place...if you think that Ovnimoon track is close to full-on, then I can't understand why you don't see the rest of the set that way. IMO the style and energy level is fairly consistent throughout the set.

I wasn't too keen on that Neelix track either when I first heard it, but it had that "2 Unlimited - Get Ready for This" effect happening, in that I couldn't get it out of my head. I'd heard it several hundred times after listening to it only once, and it made its way into the mix. I actually like the track, you don't which is fair enough.

Electra is the one track that does seem out of place (slightly IMO). It had the tone/attitude/warmth/feeling etc. that I wanted in that place. I was going to end the set with this track, maybe I should have just kept it out judging from your comment...?

That Nasa track is a nice one. I find it to be the "trippiest" track in the set, which is even more glorious if you happen to be intoxicated! IMO, this would make a great transition track from progressive to psychedelic.

I rarely post up any sets and those that I do, I've barely seen any critical comments (or praise really) or help with what makes a good set. I listen to stuff to find things that I like and try to emulate those things I like in my sets...

One person told me that a goa set I'd done 6 or 7 years ago all sounded the same...and he'd like some musical variety. One other set I'd done, someone commented about a slight style-shift in the same genre in the mix, and that it sounded out of place. So judging from the 2 bits of feedback I got on those mixes plus what you've written, I can decree that some people want all tracks in a set to sound "the same" or have a straight-line progression, and some people want a "variety". As I said, since I rarely post sets, and rarely get feedback/criticisms, I'd probably have a difficult time doing "a lot better". This mix, and PSYde effects I made for me, whereas most of my previous mixes I'd done for other people, or in honor of other people such as my tribute mix to Sara.

Anyhow, thanks for checking it and for posting your thoughts. At least you found a track or two you like.

Cheers,

THC
