any credence given to djmag's polling for the ever-so-dubious title of "best dj in the world" as anything more than some publication's ingenious effort to heighten its own brand value through its highly lucrative industry marketing tool, is based upon unequivocal ignorance. the model is designed to serve those in the scene who have no sense of direction, no innate curiosity and no interest in expanding their perspective, those that need to be weened towards the most catchy, commercial, unchallenging sounds in the electronic music world, and consequentially those who will pay through the nose for the name on the flyer. quite often these are your rave-circuit djs. this isn't a trance vs house thing, the #1 trance dj and #1 house dj are equally unrepresentative of both genres, but what is most unrepresentative to the world of edm itself is how heavily distorted the balance is between trance and house and everything else. as a popularity contest, it more accurately represents how commercialized each genre is at that time. and since house music encompasses such a broader swath of sounds and scenes than trance, the poll ends up illustrating brilliantly in which scene you'll find the most sophisticated beats.
