I've been following this for years but lost track recently; I had no idea it was close to opening.

Some of those terms seem way too far ahead of our time, though I have a vague idea of what a few of them mean, they sound like something from Star Wars.

"Compact muon solenoid"

"liquid argon calorimeter"

"time projection chamber" (I think they made that one up)

I think a lot of people are worried that this is going to collide particles in some way we can't predict, and destroy Earth, or a large portion of it. I wouldn't rule it out.

I don't intend to be mean, but are you getting good marks at college with essays like that?

Firstly, citing wikipedia as a source is a complete joke (which you already acknowledged as poor practice yourself, so you're not stupid), but also your sentence structure, vocabulary and clarity of idea seem fairly poor compared to essays I've read in the past. You seem to make a lot of unverified assumptions in simplistic black and white terms, i.e "A commercially viable fusion reactor would solve our global warming problem" or "the supply of fossil fuels is gradually wearing away so that by 2200 ("Fossil Fuel," 2006), the earth will have none left"

I'm sorry if you find my remarks offensive, because no one really likes their work picked on, but yeah, just putting it out there.

Do you work hard on submissions or are you the kind of lazy prick that writes it at 4am the night before it's due, like I used to at school?

I wrote a grand prize winning($500!) short story a year ago surrounding the LHC. It starts out with 2 guys at the cafe who are part of a secret scientific society that has long since realized Unified Field Theory, discussing whether they should execute their plot, which is to cause a calculated catastrophic failure. I pretty much took inspiration from this scene of Metal Gear Solid 3.


The funny thing is that they told me they would not publish it in the university paper, as intentioned for the prize winner. Swear words, murder and terrorism, it just doesn't go down well in a public paper as well as the 2nd place loser who's story was some gay story about 2 dykes dyking out of the closet to their dyke hating parents.
