Please do a search. This sort of thing is discussed to death at least once a week.

I'm not in a position to really give advice yet, but I have just bought a pioneer cdj200's, a vestax mixer and SONY MDR-V700DJ headphones. All together it has cost me about €700, which is over a thousand dollars, which I didn't expect to spend at the start.
To be honest its a genuine interest for me and though its a big risk to take financially i'd rather buy the gear now that could end up sold for a good price if things go bad than to have never tried it out.
So saying that, I reccomend just go for it, get yourself a decent set of decks a mixer and some headphones and give it a go.
After that there is a million different ways for you to learn the tricks of the trade that i'm loking forward to learning.

Alright, would you guys recommend I start with FL studio or Virtual DJ before I go out and spend money on equipment?

Avoid using Virtual DJ - It's crap! FL Studio is meant for production, not DJing.

Save up and buy yourself a decent set up -

only software worth using to mix is traktor. I prefer the older version 2.5. closest thing to cdj's without a jogwheel.

I started on traktor, then learned to play vinyl on crappy numarks, bought 1210s and a 3 channel mixer. then started using vinyl with traktor. bought a cheap numark axis 2 cdj, then finally sold my 1210s after buying denon dns3000's for £250 pair.

vinyl ultimately is dead in my opinion.. go for cdj's. cheap cdj's are better then cheap turntables.

I would def look around on this part of the forums. There is lots of advice and useful threads here.

I bought a pair of Pioneer CDJ 200s and a Numark mixer which I feel is an ideal setup for someone not looking to spend a tonne. I would reccomend making some friends who DJ and try out their gear also. You can be deterred by the learning curve. It's not steep but some musical background helps. But if you play around and get hooked, well, buy the best gear you can afford.

It'll save you the hassle of upgrading later.

Oh yeah, buy used stuff of craigslist or friends. That way, if you decide you don't like it, you haven't broken the bank.

As far as software.

Virtual DJ is a fine tool for learning the basics when you get started. I started out on Virtual DJ but It's def not something i would use in a club.

But, it's easy to use and teaches you the basics.

Another one i would look into is Traktor. Traktor is a pretty decent program but a little more complicated than VDJ. Traktor on the other hand has been used a lot more by pro's.

Don't touch Ableton until you really start getting the basics down. You will just confuse and frustrate yourself. Once you have the basics, Ableton is a good jump to professional DJing using software.

For starting out i always recommend software. Some form of it. Mainly because of the price difference. Even getting CDJ400s will run you a lot of dough and what if you realize it's not for you?

Once people actually see all the prep work that goes into DJing a lot of people don't feel its worth it.

The main thing is...build your way up slowly.

Once you really know it's what you want to do. You can choose if you want to go with the CDJ route or the Vinyl way(which i recommend Serato)

Oh and FL studio is for producing. And although a lot of people knock it. It's a good program to learn the basics until you get serious with it.

Anyway, as i said:
VDJ to start, then make your decisions from there. And do LOTS of research on it.
