[P-Review] Guy Gerber @ Ultrabar, DC
You guys are in for a treat.
The beginning of his set could be described as airy and introspective. Then he started speeding up (metaphorically) adding in a hint of jazz and some track by Umek I think, it had an accordion on it. The set then turned a little spooky, I guess would be the word and he played some ill track with a Ferry style robot voice in the background. Dude was using ableton with an Evolution controller, I don't think I saw him with headphones on once. The first hour was like an engine at the start of the drag race. he revved us the fuck up and then BAM! some happy ass track and then back into some airy techno with vocals. For the rest of the night the bass thumped as twisted harmonies were layered one on top of the other.
but the best part of the evening was easily his close. Guy took it straight to the jazz lounge wit some ol' reworked slow latin mambo type music. He was straight vampin. The lights in Ultrabar came on, the bouncers swept up and guy kept on, ending with some remix of Peter, Bjorn & John's track "Young Folks" which had me buggin cause like, I didn't even know that people really knew that song, let alone had remixed it.
so like I said, you guys are in for a treat. Shit, I liked the set so much I was taking notes on how much I loved it just to write a review. In between dancing. Which was also awesome, minimal/techno/tech house, whatever you wanna call it, that I could stomp to.
so there's your (p)review. enjoy
and on a side note... who called Syracuse basketball being the shit this year?? Oh yeah, me.
