Certainly, the melodies are important for the feeling, but without the right speed, nobody will fall into trance. Btw. do you have some personal maximum pitch? I mean, is there a limit of how much you pitch up a track?
I have two or three tracks that I like to pitch up by +8-10% and they sound especially nice then. Just try it... Also I avoid pitching down as much as possible, which is my personal rule. |
Well I really don't place any rules on my playing, it's just a combination of personal preference and track selection. I used to pitch all my tunes well up to +6-8% but got out of that habit because it can kind of limit where you can go with a set and also doesn't work well for me with other genres I play. I do think I should have increased the tempo a bit more for the 2nd half now though.

Each to their own. I'm not saying it's hard to do, it's certainly doable, I just feel that a tempo increase like that will sound better over 2+ hours than in an hour to an hour and a half.
