Gangsta Polka

Just though this might interest some of you...

Living here in El Paso, along the Texas/Mexico border, I'v been exposed to a lot from the Mexican side of the border. Everyone knows about the drug war going on, but in El Paso, it's just a stones throw away, from the most violent city in the world Cuidad Juarez (worse than Baghdad, Iraq). In America, everyone's seen the hiphop, 'gangsta music' culture take hold. But honestly, 50cent, snoop dogg, etc. don't have shit on Mexico. Nobodies chopping heads off and then writing songs about it. Yes, Mexico has gangsta music. But not rap, oh no. It's GANGSTA POLKA!! Only in Mexico... This song, "El poder de los Zetas" means "the power of los zetas". Los Zetas being a group of ex-special forces from the Mexican military who decided to become a mercenary army working from the Gulf Cartel. These are some bad motherfckers. Imagine Navy Seals or British SAS who decide to join the mafia.

Sounds like a crappy version of traditional Mexican music to me, which is not Polka.

It is essentially the polka style of music, but they don't call it polka. They are corridos. The corrido was originally performed as a melodically simple tune with guitar accompaniment. It was performed in waltz time and now commonly adopts a polka rhythm.

That was horrible, and the sound effects made it even worse

I wish I didn't understand what they said, because I could delude myself thinking the lyrics were worth paying attention to...

Yea, let's ignore what it actually says, and whine about it coming from wikipedia.

my half brother was listening to this shit when he stayed with my family for 2 months. I told him not to listen to that shit while he was staying with us and he went and told mother (he's 29 years old).
It had a bunch of crap about killing the border patrol, cops and "fuck gringos" nonsense.
