Here is the official trailer for the new Karate Kid movie, starring Will Smith's son. It looks like it's going to be an ever bigger hatchet job than I anticipated. Why can't they just leave the classics alone?

The Karate Kid movies are '80s camp, not "classic."

This movie needs more Martin Kove
Yeah, I don't care what kind of shape he's in these days, this movie just needs more of him.

Yep.
That new trailer looks fucking awful. Hollywood movies are like trance; the directors took all the good elements, simplified them, exploited them and wrecked their field in the process. There's little creativity, subtlety or emotion left. '80s movies were bad, but they knew it and didn't take themselves seriously. New Hollywood flicks don't have that quality.
Why the fuck is this new movie set in China with a Chinese teacher anyway? Karate is Japanese and all the original movies were centred around this. Bonsai etc.
