I have 2gb I will get 2 more then tommorow. (thats all I have room for on the mobo) but RAM is memory that will effect speed too is what you're saying?
I thought it was just the processor.
And I use about 8-10 synths, thats before I even get to around bar 41 for the break my computer usually is already starting to max out. And I try to finish the rest of the track just using those synths it sucks.
I do A LOT of automations though, a lot of things moving, a lot of equalizers, a lot of delays, very few reverbs, very few compressors, occassional chorus, phasers, flangers, etc. Right now though I use very little samples so I only use 1/4 ram at most. All though when/if I reinstall Nexus and Hypersonic I may certaintly use it.
I don't know.

I notice when I use the Virus its best to only use the virus.
For some reason even when the levels are right, and the pitch is right, and the timing is right, it doesn't sound right when mixed with vsts. Its real hard for me to explain but virus mixes fine with the virus, with vsts its difficult for it to not sound "off" somehow.
I may have to submit an example to show what I mean,

I'm not sure if FL can make proper use of that chip, I'll have to read to find out. But that actually looks like a perfect recommendation, people are saying they noticed a fair difference coming off of the quad core, I'm only using a dual core, and wtf its only like $100 more then the core2 was? I got ripped off! lol. But that would have to be much much faster, I likey a lot.

i'd have to agree with getting your hands on a powercore. the fx units on it are killer, and because it's dsp powered it wont drain your system resources at all. that'll help a lot.
also, try bouncing down dry audio where you can. and putting effects on group channels where practical.

Re: My core2 really just isn't doing it anymore.. I need some recommendations plz

I had actually produced on a shitty pentium D for about 5 years, and it wasn't till last year I updated to a core2duo E7400.
After this recent format I did gain a lot of speed back, but it doesn't seem as fast as it was when it was new. (its not vmware as its not even running so lets not get into that please) I really thought after having the pentium D for 5 years I could easily make it at least another 2 or 3 minimum with the core2 but this has become my number 1 excuse to not finish tracks anymore.
I don't even use a lot of synths, maybe 8-10 max, but I do use wayyy more fx then I use to. Fx that barely use cpu like equalizers and what not. Back in the day I would route maybe 4 or 5 hihats to the same equal but now I insist on having a seperate equalizer for every sound. I still can't imagine this is whats killing my cpu. I dont use reverbs for every sound, will only have 3 or 4 max per project.
But w/e the case, either something in my technique has changed or my computers slowing down or both.
I'm left with a few ideas (none of which include bouncing as I already do it, I just don't do it a lot because I NEED most of my original synths open in my tracks)
The mobo I have now is an ASUS (was cheap as fvck like $80 when I built my computer) and it can't be overclocked with the core2.
So I'm left with 2 main decisions.
1) I pick up a new mobo, roughly around the same price range (perhaps a bit more but this one honestly it perfect with the exception of overclocking)
2) I buy a new processor for around $300-$400 (thats what I have to work with).
It seems the highest the core2 go up to are around the E8600, but I'm afraid I'm gonna be in the same position a year from now.
Or maybe I can get the e8600 & a new mobo, then overclock it and maybe that would be fast enough?
I know this is hard to answer as it comes down to general technique, but what would get me the most bang for my buck? Considering I use FL 9? Thanks guys! |
What soundcard are you using?
Also when did you last do a full format?
