i find the vengeance samples pretty useless. their impossible to process as they are already squashed to death, u can only make farthouse with them imo.

Guys I'm wondering about using loops, I'm not talking about one shots - I already use those.
I've not really used drum loops before, but there is a plethora of these available, and wondering whether I'm missing out not using drum loops.
My inclanation thus far has been to always make my own, but just wondering whether I'm creating more work for myself and perhaps loops are better anyway as presumably they are made by specialists with good outboard. |
I wouldn't say you're necessarily missing out, and I don't think you're creating more work for yourself either. What time you save in not having to programme, you'll most likely lose again by getting a loop to fit properly.
There are some useful odd percussive loops that I'd layer on top of programmed hats etc now, and possibly even run them through something like Camelspace but I most likely wouldn't start out with a loop.
I always start with programmed hats first as well, and then get a kick, bassline, melodic parts in etc. Only then will I put a loop over the top so IT fits with my track and not the other way round.
Consider a loop like a sauce for your dinner. Many varieties and sometimes you don't want sauce
