I use to build websites on my own and I learned myself so anything I say is NOT likely to be what you would learn formally.
But one thing I learned is domain names mean nothing.
They don't need to be "clever" at all.
The name "myspace" is one of the stupidest names someone could have came up with, but it was the effort, the design, the simplicity, and how the site catered to users that made the site what it was.
A domain name should only be short and easy to remember. Most would agree it should somehow be associated to what the site is about, but look at some other websites out there.
I can give you a list of 100 very popular domain names, and I guarantee you can't even guess what the sites are about or what they do. (you would have no idea what "ebay" was unless you used it or heard about it first) If this is for school I can see why they would focus on it so much (they need to make it look like your money is actually going somewhere useful) but in practice I'd venture to say it really does not need to be clever at all.
In fact, I think a domain name has .0000001% to do with the actual success of a website. Put 10 names in a hat and pick one, seriously.
