The music industry is so unstable right now that labels are terrified to put money into anything that is not 'guaranteed' to sell a ton of units. They're only interested in what's 'safe', which is why we hear the same tired garbage over and over again. It's a fear thing.

Don't be so pessimistic. EDM these days IS shit because it's way too easy for some moron to try and be a DJ Hero and make some tunes. Let the DJ be your guide. Find a favorite DJ and listen to his sets. They'll do the picking for you and then you don't have to go through all the crap music.

You just have to take modern music for what it is. The best of it are still great songs, loud as they may be ... Engineering is one thing, song writing is just as important, though.

Too far back. Mid 90s and everything wasn't clear enough in most tracks and the mastering was woefully inadequate compared to today, yet today it's overdone.

Middle ground is what we need. With everything we've learnt over the years and the kickass equipment we now have, why would we want to go back to an inferior product?

because no matter what gear u have the standard is still 16bit, and that only allows what it allows. and not to mention mp3, we have 1/4th of the avaliable info in todays "best" commercial format compared to CDs in the 90s. and thats the best. normal is half of that again, like 1/8th or 1/12th of the info compared to before. fuck mp3, compression and all that shit. goodnight.
