Monitor help - Is this one worth having?

I'm in the process of looking for a new monitor for my PC, preferably an LCD one. As luck would have it an IT company who works in my building are selling off some of their stock at discounted prices and are selling the following monitor at what appears to be a good price.

The problem is I don't really know what I'm reading when I look at the specs. I know what the specs mean, I just don't know if the figures are good or bad as I have nothing to compare it to.

I've googled for reviews but can't find any, which is perhaps a concern in itself...

Can anyone let me know if this is worth having? And if not, what sort of specs I should be looking for. I watch a fair bit of TV on my PC, play the odd game, and occassionaly fuck about with a bit of photoshop.

It's not bad by any means but the value would depend on the price you are buying it for.

£100. Looking around it seems it's being sold in most places for about £130-160, so it's not a bad price. However, I'm not opposed to spending a bit more for something better if this is sub-standard. It's just that getting it a bit cheaper would be a bonus.

It's a TN (Twisted Nematic) Panel. Fast response time, which will refresh the image on the screen fast enough that your eyes won't be able to see the 'Ghosting' when the colors of the pixels shift to a different color.

TN Panels are the cheapest of all the LCD Panel technologies. They lack in color uniformity, usually have some form of backlight bleeding (though not all), usually have color banding issues and also have pretty bad viewing angles (Colors will appear washed out when looking at the monitor from an Angle). They are only able to display 6-bit color (which is not sRGB Standard).

Understand that TN panel technology is in virtually all budget based LCD monitors. Regardless of brand.

What this all means, is that this will be fine as a websurfing, gaming and otherwise normal multimedia Display. But if you're working with anything that's color critical (Photoshop, etc), with any seriousness. Than this is NOT the monitor for you.

However, you'd have to up your budget by about 3x to be able to step into a Panel technology (VA or IPS) that will allow 8-bit color with proper uniformity.

The price is right for the monitor though, so if you're happy with it, go for it!

Hope that helps you.

So, in short: if you're gonna watch porn in it, get the good monitor.
