Leaving monitors on all day

does anyone leave their monitors on all day? I get tired of clicking the power button on each monitor each time i feel like producing and was wondering if leaving them on all day would shorten their life span or raise the chance of electrical fire or any type of hazard.

I suspect that the answer would differ for those who pay their own electric bill vs. those who don't. I turn all of my equipment and computer off when I'm at work, sleeping, or just gone for several hours. That basically means that my equipment (including my monitors) is on for about 4-8 hours in the evening and anywhere from 4-10 hours per day on a typical weekend when we're home. Still, my monthly electric bill consistently tells me every month that our house uses approximately 20-30% more electricity than average for our neighborhood, and we have one of the smaller houses on our block.

i don't pay for electricity so Ieave everything on all the time. For electronics, I think fluctuations in temperature is one of the big things to watch out for so turning things on and off is not a great idea.

Cryophonic - wouldn't it be funny if you were listed as a potential pot grower with the DEA ?

I wouldn't be surprised if I was on their watch list - there have been a few pot houses busted within several blocks of us over the past few years.

bloody pot growers, move on to the lab!

I switch everything off to avoid power surges, tho i should invest in a surge protector at the wall point.

So make sure you have a surge protector just in case..!

I pay my own electric bill but I still keep my monitors turned on all the time. I've had it this way for about a year but it's only becasue the switch is in the back and really inconveient to get to. I'm hoping that my new place in May/June will be roomier and I'll be able to get to the backs of my monitors easier.

But for what it's worth, I don't think it's a big deal and especially if they are high quality, all that could possibly be affected are the amplifiers which are a much easier replacement than the drivers.

I was always under the assumption that Obama passed a bill to stop searches in Cali. They had a whole special on it a few months back. As the cops were passing the houses, they would point and say "we suspect this is a grow house.. and that one over there, but we're not allowed legally to do anything".

Maybe it was something about just how they get the search warrants, but they were saying 80% of the house in this one neighborhood in Arcadia are grow houses, but almost nothing can be done to stop it. A lot of these houses ship online, not person to person, so its hard to obtain search warrants I heard.

it isn't rocket science. Power bill is elevated, you set up survaillance and in a few months you have enough evidence to prosecute them. The problem is that growers will usually only use a house for a few months then buy another one and basically keep moving around. Although I wouldnt really say it is a problem as I don't see pot as a problem. A problem for the USA and their stupid war on drugs.

monitors on standby uses like 1Watt, so when standing on for 1000hours u get 1kWh. not very big on a powerbill at 500-1000kWh/month right? heating and lights are the only cost worth cutting down on.
