Some desks have cable management built in. There's a small shelf in the back of mine with holes for using cable ties.

Here's a system I employ all over my house:

Rip-Tie + Plastic loop / bracket thingy + wood screw

You can screw this little gadget we just made into any surface, and use it to organize cables along the back of your rig, under shit, or wherever you want. The genius is that because the rip tie is velcro, you don't have to do anything drastic to add a new cable or remove one. one 6" rip tie can wrap around a LOT of cables to keep them neat. Here's a pic:

Ditto (I have the same desk). It keeps my workspace nice and tidy looking.

Also, cable snakes are another way of keeping it a little more organized.

Cable tie bases are your friend. Especially the self adhesive ones but sometime a small screw in the center is needed.

You can use the cable worms but they make cable chasing a pain when there's a problem that needs tracing.

Just remember to keep power cables away from audio lines (especially unlbalanced lines), and if they must cross, do it at a ninety degree angle.

Ikea also do a good cable management tray for only $10:

In fact the SIGNUM range from them has some useful bits for cable management.
