This got SUCH a bad rap on the Abes forum

I actually like it, it's just a shame they didn't add more scene buttons. Wasted opportunity. All they did was cut an APC40 in half and added some minor improvements. They missed the boat.

A few reasons for this spring to mind.

Costs - It's way cheaper for them to modify an existing product than it is to develop a new one.

'Compatbility' with the APC40 - One of the key features is that it can be used in conjunction with the APC40, with this goal in mind, it makes sense for it to be pretty much the same as the APC40.

I don't think they missed the boat, it's clear that the objective wasn't to create a brand new product. Akai have/will succeed in doing what they aimed to do with the APC20.

Anyway, I like it as well. I'll certainly be buying one .



I do wonder what they will bring out next though, an APC5??

Peronally I'd just like an 8x8 grid with 7 knobs (laid out like the VCM 600) on each channel and a fader. Then another section with 8 knobs, master fader, tempo fader, and sends and returns, similar to the VCM 600 again. ATM I'm aiming for a setup with the VCM 600 and a launchpad. I think it'll give me everything I want...

I don't understand why the APC 40/20 never put an 8x8 matrix though. Its really stupid considering that it would have made them compatable with monome apps. As it is they've made themselves almost useless to me personally.
