During an exiting game of Resort golf on the Wii , myself and a few others listened to a plethora of music during the friday night games.
We listened to alot of music right from Lady GaGa thru to Prodigy.

It was during that song by Lady GaGa about the papparazzi that a female friend on mine said she got goosebumps during the chorus.

This delevoped into a convo on which music give you goosebumps.

I , being me , obviously chose the epic Seven Cities original mix as my best goosebumpy tune , which it is , when that bassy pad kicks in half way through awwww maaaa g....

anyways,

I dont know if any supposed music theorists can shed light on this but I could pick out uplifting and emotional chords where most peoples pick.

So the point of this thread is I want to find out why people like music that dosent contain this theory I had come up with that uplifting and emotional stuff creates popularity through goosebumps.

Otherwise its because I went to watch Sander Van Doorn and he played a lot of Tech Trance which to me was stale and lacking but most of the crowd lapped it up without a single what I call goosebumpy moment.

It's personal preference, what moves you. This will be different for everybody, but in general, people who are into the more commercially catchy stuff will be moved by those big, grandiose, "epic" type of moments.

I still don't really get what you're asking however. Music is an emotional art form, it is meant to move people emotionally. If something is particularly appealing to you, it may cause such a reaction as the goosebumps.

Ye I get people are into those big pop moments. But im just trying to find out what makes the minority tick , those into more specialised genres , like tech trance ,D&B and what Mr JBJ makes , just noise.

The crowd can give people "goosebumps" regardless of the music. Great atmosphere made me dance on tracks which I normally even wouldn't listen at home. That's my explanation for what you saw at Sander Van Doorn, have fun, don't think.

The long guitar intro of Right In The Night has given me goosebumps in a very known club in Belgium long ago, fantastic. It's often a combination of surrounding and sound and also volume I think.

Also when the beat starts in CYB - Now and it's melody after that alway was extremely catchy. The crowd alway went crazy when that track was played.

I think majority of people are tone deaf and get goose bumps from hearing paparazzi because the part of their brain responsible for interpreting sound waves is retarded.

I get goose bumps from a lot of drops, especially adagio for strings and luminary - my world (andy moor remix).

This is definitely true. I usually stray away from House, especially with someone like Steve Angello, but when I saw him at Electric Zoo Festival in NYC, it was just an awesome atmosphere that I couldn't help but have a great time and get into it. As for Sander van Doorn, I was always a small fan of his until I saw him live here in DC. The club wasn't packed, and there weren't that many people actually there, but it is definitely one of the funnest gigs I have been to all year.

While I don't know what Mr JBJ makes, I enjoy Tech Trance and Drum 'n Bass quite a bit. They don't necessarily give me the goosebump moments that Uplifting Trance or even Ambient can often do, but I find myself able to have a blast with everyone around me while the deep basslines brings down the house, and that's just as good in my mind.

I think the goosebumps come from the mood and atmosphere you're experiencing in addition to the sounds you are hearing, and as someone said earlier, the volume at which you hear it.

Concerning Lady GaGa though...Bleh! I guess I KINDA maybe somewhat understand how someone can at least enjoy it, but goosebumps over paparazzi??

I think the bulk of Lady GaGa's audience are women and i did mention she was female and the chicks dig pop music , hell its them that make the pop industry.

I would worry if a guy liked it.

But each to there own.
