Laptop GPU...

There's no tech forum any longer, so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask here...

I'm fairly certain my laptop GPU died - I've reformatted 3 times, updated drivers, rolled back drivers, deleted particular Vista(!) updates pertaining to nvidia problems, etc. Still getting reliable interference and almost immediate reset of the display adapter whenever I run my machine with the GPU enabled. Everything seems to work perfectly fine when I disable it though, so I still think the whole think is salvageable.

I'm looking for a replacement 8800M GTS, and the only place I can find one is at the HP site - and they want $270 for it.

It's a very good card, but you can find a regular one for like $40. I guess my question is:

Does anyone know of any good laptop parts resources online? I've scoured Google and can't seem to find any place that might sell something like a mobile GPU apart from the outrageous manufacturers.

Help me Gamefor-Um, you're my only hope.

The thing with laptop graphics cards is that they are usually bolted on the motherboard, and that unless the manufacturer had changing the cards in mind, they are going to be a bitch to swap. Also, unless youre swapping for an idential one, theres bound to be problems with coolin. Hate to say it, but its very unlikely youll find a cheap alternative.

My laptop was out of warranty last months and this week when i tried to open the dvd drive the tray lauched out of the computer and would probably fly acros the damn table if it wasnt only for the cables keeping it in place. The casing completely failed. They want 300EUR to fix it...fuck that, the computer was worth 500EUR new, im not paying 300 two years later for a fucking dvd drive. Fucking HP.

Usually when that happens mate, it's done for. As Mongoose said the GPU's are integrated into the Mobo, so u would have to swap that out, and you would be better off just getting a new laptop that is faster.

Yeahhh, that's kind of what I figured. I will still try disassembling it and taking a toothbrush to all the parts I can find (only half kidding), and upgrading it to Win7 to see if that does anything for me... but I am definitely going to miss this beast of a laptop. It's served me dutifully for 2 years, and has a great dual-core processor and a fucking 20" HD screen. D:

Thanks, guys.

was that one of the nvidia gpus prone to cooking itself? when was the computer made? if around 2007/2008 it is possible that the company had to extend the warranty to cover GPU defects. even so, it may be overdue|
