in my opinion, isps provide a service, and that is internet access.
however much they want to charge, should be determined by how much people want to pay, supply and demand as always.
they should be able to limit your speed and bandwidth if they want to.
HOWEVER what i disagree with, is the way they are doing it. all the prices and policies are going up at the same rate and time. the different ISPs are collaborating to screw the customer. this is known as price fixing, and it is illegal. it's basically a monopoly, as your choice is effectively taken away from you if the services are the same.
also, i just bought a modem, for $300. my first 6 months was $24.95, and the next 6 was $34.95. however, i just got an email stating that the price is going up. there is nothing i can do, but walk away, and lose the money i paid for the modem. this is BULLSHIT.
yes, even though, it says they may change the terms of service or prices at any time, it's still BULLSHIT, and we as consumers should not have to put up with it.
it's like when you go to a chiropractor, and they make you sign a disclaimer, basically saying, if this procedure injures you, or even kills you, i am not responsible. if you don't sign, you don't get treated, and remain in pain. since all the chiropractors have the same agreement, all the customers get screwed.
BULLSHIT
there is a way around this. there needs to be a league of consumers, to fight big buisness. i've been thinking this for a long time.. but, have never got around to organizing one.
