Nick T's $5000 offer.......

I haven't really been following the whole Nick T thing on here but thought you guys might be interested in this, he posted in on my FB wall.

Apparently he was interviewed and got "a chance" to bash "someone" who bashs him online, I only assume that's on TA. He was apparently then offered $5000 to play a club in T.O.

Hey everyone I hope you are all doing well & I hope the year has been treating you good so far

I had a oppertuntiy to do my first EDM & Online radio interview on 03/03/10 It was suppose to be a live studio interview but some crazy stuff happened that most of you will never believe

I got to talk about sampling in the first part & a little bit about myself in the 2nd part

I also got a oppertunity to make talk about a Canadian dj who thinks its cool to make fun of me & my music on message boards & in real life I got the chance to do the same to him on air but I never say names

It was a very memorable interview for me as there were like 10 ppl who called in

1 caller Said they were the Manager of a Nightclub In the gta & offered me $5000 to spin in the venue as long as I can get 400 ppl in I was just wondering if you guys think thats a good price since your in that industry

To be fair........

there would be no such thing as house music if everyone credited everyone for the samples they used.

i would say a good 80% of house (Especially that from the 90s) is uncredited and sampled from disco or even music from the 60s.

have a gander through discogs

ill just leave this thread with 1 example.

not trying to defend the goon but if it wasn't for "illegal" sampling there would be no such thing as house music.

this is one of the reasons why the scene is/was "underground"

Seeing how he is so pompus and proud and not keeping it low key says alot. IF this is the case then perhaps he should be getting licenses to use the music.

its a fine line i guess. producers (Especially those sampling raw loops from previously made songs) should have a sense of humility towards the original piece.

IMO.

Believe me I agree but he's NO Dj Shadow...even he had an insane amount of originality and uniqueness when he was playing samples.

ahh ok.. well im just shedding some light into the issue.. i have just stumbled accross his name a couple of times and hearing alot of people talking about credit this, credit that etc. The reality is (if that were the case) most of all house producers would be in jail.

i try once in a while to edit comments on discogs to make sure that people who browse the track understand where the original came from.

just clarifying chris

No, actually, you're not, because he only calls it "sampling" in order to make it sound legitimate. It's actually nothing of the sort, it's more like a really bad mash-up, ripping large sections from 3 or 4 different songs and chucking them into eJay or something, adding no original material whatsoever, and then calling it his own track.

It's also wholly irrelevant how house music was shaped by sampling. That was decades ago, when the copyright laws hadn't caught up. Simply because such things were acceptable back then does not mean that they are still acceptable today. Today, you ask for permission before ripping anything longer than about half a second (i.e. anything recognizable) and co-opting it for your own track.

Now can we stop with this? It's getting annoying with all of these people who don't know the back-story offering up theories and insights. It's not that hard to search.
