Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

AKG 701s just died. Well, the right can at least. Cut right out whilst I was loosing myself in a sweet choon I'm making!

It's just not going to be the same without them. I want them back. See, we've developed an understanding with one another (I even made love to them a couple of times). I had them for 3 years so unfortunately, they're out of warranty.

Could anyone recommend a repairman (based in Lyon, France at the moment) or is it better to ship them back to HQ in Austria?

Cheers

Steve

Suggesting he just goes out and buys a new pair of $300-400 headphones isn't exactly financially possible for everyone

I have K701's too, I feel for ya. Wouldn't know where to get them repaired unfortunately, good luck and here's hoping you don't have to spring for another pair.

For what its worth, there has been a massive price drop on all Beyerdynamic headphones in just the last couple of weeks. Some dropping as much as $80 per pair. Sadly, I bought a pair of DT 770 Pros for $249 and now they are selling for $60 less on Amazon.com. In fact all models including the 880s and 990s all have had a huge price drops so worth a look if you are deciding on a new pair.

Slightly off topic:

How do these compare to the HD650's?

My buddy owns 650's, I was going to go with those back when I bought the 701's just because I knew how good the 650's sounded, but reviews tended to side with AKG. I can't say they were wrong, the 701's really sound like there's much more detail in the individual sounds. When I first listened to them I could pick out every individual sound with more clarity than I could have ever done with the 650's. The bass isn't as booming but I think it's a much better representation of it, it comes through nice and strong when the song means for it but it never overpowers the other elements, definitely better for detailed mixing if you use them for production.

I think the 650's are good for just listening, but the 701's really have a more polished sound to them, IMO, especially after they're properly worn in.

And for what it's worth, the 701's are the most comfortable headphones I've had. I'm usually not even aware I'm wearing them most of the time, and have no problem keeping them on even if I'm not using them. They definitely take the cake for looks, too
