How do these compare to the HD650's? |
My buddy owns 650's, I was going to go with those back when I bought the 701's just because I knew how good the 650's sounded, but reviews tended to side with AKG. I can't say they were wrong, the 701's really sound like there's much more detail in the individual sounds. When I first listened to them I could pick out every individual sound with more clarity than I could have ever done with the 650's. The bass isn't as booming but I think it's a much better representation of it, it comes through nice and strong when the song means for it but it never overpowers the other elements, definitely better for detailed mixing if you use them for production.
I think the 650's are good for just listening, but the 701's really have a more polished sound to them, IMO, especially after they're properly worn in.
And for what it's worth, the 701's are the most comfortable headphones I've had. I'm usually not even aware I'm wearing them most of the time, and have no problem keeping them on even if I'm not using them. They definitely take the cake for looks, too
