Awesome!
Amazing night! I wasn't even going to go until THE MAN OZ pulls through for me!
I didn't catch any of Armins set, so I can't say how it was, but set of the night was SIGNUM!!!! WOW!!
No offence, but Tyas was repetitive and kind've boring and didn't realy take me anywhere, maybe because he came on after Simon, who was ripping shit up. But Signum was AMAZING!! A few remixes of some classics like 7 Days and 1 week, First Stirke... But ending with Suburban Train (Original) was EPIC! Signums set was non-stop rhythms and basslines! I danced so hard, hair fell out of my hair!
Wish I caught Arnej's set to open, but being there for his set in the Drink was pretty awesome still! Awesome job Arnej, Good luck @ Trance Energy!! Can't wait to get all the sets and listen them in their entirety!
Best moment of the night though... besides Suburban Train...

Dude was so fukt he lost his shoes!!

This is review from one cynical tranceaddict, so take it as you will. I’m apparently a trance elitist (actually, I know I’m bloody damn opinionated and if you have a problem with that, eat a dick) lol
The night began with arrive at the Guv around 1015. And the line was already huge. And only entrance was through Koolhaus. I groaned, thinking this would take forever, esp on the guest list line. However, the line moved pretty fast, and even with waiting to buy a ticket, I got in after about 20min wait. Having couple girls doing guest list deffo made the difference.
Overall organization for the possibly biggest night in the Guv in a while was pretty darn good. One way traffic route thing worked well for most part, though it did get confusing at times and ended up at d’luxe lounge couple of times. Though that ATM getting in the way near the KH entrance was bad. Minimal decoration (but I didn’t care) and everything was relatively smooth. (the shooter girls in rabbit ears and tails was kinda cute lol) The security guys weren’t overly pushy but got the crowd moving through the traffic. Staff was efficient. Overall service was one of best I’ve experienced at Guv. No problem with sound system. Everything was clear and just the right amount of volume. Well done
Manzone & Strong
Entered Koolhaus and already there was a decent crowd. M&S laying down some serious chuggy beats. Was kinda surprised how hard they were playing, considering it was only like 1045 but I didn’t mind. I don’t think the Z103.5 ginos noticed either lol. Enjoyed what I heard, though Say Hello was like, wtf lol.
Went to Gallery for little and saw Ovi M laying down some funky tech which was pretty cool.
Blake Jarrell
Somehow got to d’luxe lounge around 11 after meeting up with couple of TAs. Looked down at the main room below and I see a zoo. Main room was PACKED AT 11pm. Has this ever happened before? LOL! Good thinking on opening up d’luxe lounge to take in some of the overcrowd. Found a spot and tuned in. To be honest, I like Blake when he plays more techy proggy, and not very trancey. Some tunes were ok, others were bad. Just had to play Chasing Cars remix one more time, did ya Blake. Lol
Armin van Buuren
My opinion of Armin as a DJ is so low that he’d have to work hard to merely disappoint me. But I still respect Armin in many ways, and I know he has it in him to bring it properly. Armin in 2004 was so untouchable. ASOT 2004 mix, one of greatest trance compilations ever made.
So it’s kinda like giving that hot, but crazy ex one more chance. You know you’re probably regret it, but you kinda feel you owe it to her that one more chance.
He opened the set with one helluva ASOT opener thing, and the electricity that was in the air exploded. I’ve never witnessed such a vibe going off, not since Daft Punk few years ago. It was one of those clubbing moments that make you be in such an awe that you’re part of it.
I tried to keep an open mind about Armin. I really did. But he started with 2 crap vocal tracks and I was like, figures. Le sigh. There were couple of good tunes but it was standard ASOT set. I actually listened to about 2 hours of his set, so don’t tell me I didn’t give him a proper chance lol. That two hours was like dipping my balls in honey and putting them over a fire ant hill. It was... painful, though company I was with made it slightly more bearable. Death to Burning with Desire.
The vibe in main room was great though. Armin raises a hand and the crowd roars. A Jesus pose brings the house down. Then again, Armin could be making farting noises and the crowd would go off. I mean, during Blake’s set, they showed Armin talking on the mike and crowd would go off. Ah, you silly people.
Armin, you have failed me for the last time.
David Guetta
The other major attraction of this event. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Guetta live, or if I did, it was a long time ago and I forgot. So I went to Koolhaus to check him out. The vibe in Koolhaus was also amazing. Guetta’s crowd interaction was one of the best I’ve seen. He knew just when to tease and when to allow a bit of sing a long. Then again, Z103.5 caned the hell out of the tunes I’ve heard, so even the ginos knew the words lol. Commercial, fart electro does not suit me. Spend about 20mins in main room, and I felt like I was facesat by a 500lb walrus chick. Just couldn’t take it and went back to Armin for a bit more.
Sean Tyas vs Simon Patterson
Got to the Drink about 220 and caught last bit of Blake Jarrell playing some techy prog. Though I’m rather sick of Apocalypse but eh.
And then the destruction tunes began. Took a little bit to build up the energy but once these two started going, it was crazy. After suffering through crap trance for so long, it all came out. I found my trance groove again. It’s been so long!
The BPM wasn’t really that fast for a while, but the energy in the tunes were so crazy. Just a lot of proper trance. Actually, it was mostly Tyas playing with Patterson dropping a tune here and there, so Tyas impressed me a little.
Sander Kleinenberg Part 1
330 came and I decided to go see Sander K for a bit. The tunes were great. Sander K laying down some techy big room prog. The vibe... well, deffo less than Guetta’s set.
Sander K drops a huge tune
Ginos: whoa? What happened?
Sander K plays a prog bomb
Ginos: durrrrrrr... are we suppose to dance to this?
Sander K unleashes a progtech demolisher
Ginos: I’m outta here
Lol
I rather enjoyed Sander K the half hour I caught and wanted to stay longer but Simon Patterson came calling... Though i really wished timeslots didnt conflict so I could catch at least a full hour of Sander K, esp when he's in full form. Gotta imagine playing for a predominant Z103.5 crowd would be hard, and Sander K did drop more tunes with some sort of vocals than normal IMO. (safe to say he may be hit and miss nowadays, but he could still bring it big time)
Simon Patterson
There are moments in your clubbing career when you’re like, what the hell happened to the scene and somebody comes along and restores your faith. Simon Patterson, you’re my bloody hero.
Between jumping around like a grasshopper on crack, screaming like a demon possessed fiend and smiling like an idiot the entire hour, I was in trance heaven. I haven’t felt this good about trance in ages.
Good to be back where I belong! Patterson just absolutely ripped shit up. Relentless pounding beats and epic hands in the air moments. By far the set of the night.
Sean Tyas
After Patterson’s set, no way in hell Tyas was going to top it. Started with Tiesto – Suburban Train. Looked around and nobody seemed to have clued in that this track is a classic. Then again, I was surrounded by skasians.
Tyas was deffo up and down. He’d play one good track, and bollocks it up with a bad one. Was very hard to get into his set. After his Drink set, I expected a little better but oh well. I still dislike the guy for what he’s done to trance (in bad way) but he showed me enough that I’d see him again, given right circumstances
Sander Kleinenberg Part 2
Tyas was boring me so went back to Kool Haus for more Sander K. Well, what a disappointment. Lots of melodic prog but he was clearly slowing things down to close the room. Koolhaus closed at 6am. Oh well. Next time!
Signum
The most surprising set of the night went to Signum. Now Signum has been off and below the radar for a while, and I knew that he was a good producer and ok DJ, but I didn’t know what he was going to bring. First little bit of his set was a bit rough and took me a while to get into it. I almost debated leaving, but glad I stayed as he picked up the energy with some good proper trance. One security guy wanted to shut him down just after 7 but Signum kept going and going. He probably could have played another couple hours. He was in the zone!
This guy has to be one of the happiest DJ I’ve seen playing in the main room. Not only he was happy to play in the Guv main room, I felt that he really was honoured to play there, with a crowd that was clearly into trance. Very energetic on decks. Smiling practically entire time. Was good to see a DJ having a good time just much as the crowd did. He closed the main room at 745 ish.
I almost didn’t go to this even because of the sardineness, but I’m glad I went. Because of the proper planning the Guv did, a lot of usual annoyances were minimal, and if you picked the right spots, you didn’t get sardine. Tunes were overall decent, and the vibe was one of the best I’ve experienced entire night at Guv. Plus partying with TOTA family is always fun.
Random Thoughts
-During Patterson set, some dude was staring at me for like 10mins. He asked, ‘yo, what are you on man?’ I replied, ‘trance dude.’ Him ‘huh? Trance?’ Me: ‘yeah. Listen to the tune!’ Dude walks away like I’m sort of crackhead
