Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone feel that, after having to put away the music for some time, that their mood is just off?

Just a little to describe what I mean. I used to post a lot on the boards here and have always been an avid fan of most types of EDM. Lately because of life plans (medical school) I've had to sell my DJ equipment and dedicate much of my days to studying. I look back on what I gave up and feel like I lost part of my identity, and suddenly I have this strong urge to go back into it. To the point where I don't care about my work. I suppose this can happen with any hobby or interest that someone gives up for awhile due to life circumstances, but has anyone else gone through this?

Think it could be a type of crutch, where music was identified with an earlier, simpler lifestyle?

Anything that you have a true passion for, you will never be able to let go. For instance, I swam for 14 years, and toward the end of my competitive career, I hated it. However, there's still something about getting in that water and swimming again that brings it all back to me and makes me feel better about myself.

Same thing goes for music too, honestly there will be days where if I hear a 4x4 beat, I turn it off. I'd rather listen to silence than that. Other days, I will bang out the most intense shit that I own just because it's still a part of me.

Don't feel sorry for selling your equipment, it was a stage of your life that you temporarily grew out of. You might grow out of it again, who knows? But if I were you, hang onto things that matter to you as a person, even if your CDJ's collect mountains of dust and spiderwebs, you will still wanna get back on the decks eventually, even when you're 80

At some points you will have less time to spend on music like you used to because of e.g. study, work, marriage, childeren....

But something you like that much (as music is to many people) you should keep in you're life, but maybe in a different (smaller) way. That's how I experienced it till now in my mid 30's

I have been listening to EDM for 10 years now. Life always has its twists and turns and of course I have been a year or two without much EDM experiences, but it always pulls me back, it is such a fresh and interesting genre of music. I wouldn't worry about your hiatus.

this has been apparent for the past 20 or so years dude. midi is convenient, abundant, ect

osc is better and faster however. but there hasn't been such a strong following behind it as with midi

yeah i sold my 1210s, worst decision of my life, its getting hard to get good ones (not raped) second hand now. i had to though because i needed the money at that time, oh if i only used a creditcard instead at that moment. i also sometimes listen to other kinds of genres than edm but only for a shorter period. like i just had another iron maiden and black sabbath period just now. its always nice to come back to edm, it makes all sense.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts guys. Once my academic year starts winding down I'm seriously going to invest a little in setting up my equipment again. I feel like it was such a great stress buster back in college when I played on our radio station, that I could really use something like that now.
