The DX1000 is too pro for u, it has too much channels... althou the dx500 is realy good for a starter it has 3 channels for 6 sources
that mean that u can connect 6 compacts or turntables but u will be able to mix with only 3 at the same time, it has a 3-band EQ with kill buttons...
And the price different is big.

The first time i saw Behringer products.. i was thinking..
"These are the best valued things out there!! No doubt i am gonna be getting these soon!"
I was even thinking of purchasing the DX-1000 until i wondered why they were so cheap..
the reason was because they are made in CHINA...
the cheapest place for assembling electronics..!

So that made me straight away pull away from Behringer.
The mixer are good but i dont think they would last for 1 yr..

If you want something with BPM and features, go for the Gemini BPM series. You can get the BPM-1000 and BPM-500 for the same price or even cheaper than the DX-1000..
at least they will last longer than a Behringer

And if you want quality, go for the Vestax PMC series.. they are great mixers

Well, don't be fooled by the made in China label. The Behringer mixer are quite decent (they even use Panasonic/Technics faders, they don't bleed that fast). I wouldn't go for the DX-1000 if I was u, you don't need all that stuff. I suggest you look at the 500. You get all the basic functions. Don't expect too much from the sampler though, it isn't that high quality. I may warn you that some people say they have a little hiss coming out of the mixer when no signal runs through, but frankly that won't bother you when playing music.

I'd compare them to Gemini and Numark, they are not better or not worse. As usual in this business, you get what you pay. Sure there are way better mixers out there (Xone, own the 62 myself, awesome but bye bye money; Pioneer, Vestax, ...) but most of the time starters can't afford them (sometimes even experienced dj's can't )
I'd say the DX-500 is a good option. Otherwise you could check out Gemini PS-626 or Numark DM-200x series, they are pretty popular with starters.
And if I may give you an advice, don't get mixers with gadgets like BPM counters or indicators and stuff. They'll help at first, but keep in mind that if you are serious about dj'ing, there will be a time you'll use other people's equipment. And that equipment doesn't necessarily have the same features as yours, so if you rely too much on it, you'll have a hard time using it.

A friend of mine has a DX-500 and its a really high quality mixer... I don't love it, but as far as quality is concerned, it IS top notch!

The faders are excellent, and the sound quality is very very good! I don't like the cross fader curve (very sharp) and I don't like the EQ either (only about +/- 10dB... too little).

I'd definately buy a Behringer mixer now, looking at the VMX Series... they seem excellent (on paper)... Will have to see, when they hit the stores in a few weeks ;-)

BTW, look at the S/N ratios and THD specs of the DX-500 versus say the Vestax 170... Behringer is better

Cheers
Greg

Behringer is a LOTTA bang for the buck. It's not the very high end of mixers (or studio gear for that matter), but you can't really get hurt for the price. I might pick up a behringer studio mixing desk in the future, cuz once again, the prices don't even compare (to macky's, spirit's, soundcrafts)

[edit] btw it's a german brand, not all of their gear comes out of china [/edit]

Has anyone used both the DJM-300 and the DX-500? I'd just like to know which one has the better sound quality...

Only if you have used/hear both of them clearly ... ignore the features and even build... just sound

Thanks
Greg

Hmmm... I'd choose the DX-500... if I didn't have alot of cash... if you have more cash, check out the Gemini UMX series... they are really good... ;-)

The DX-1000 will just take up more space, if you don't need the channels, screw it :-)

Cheers
Greg
