Two killed and four wounded by gunfire in unlicensed Oakland after-hours club
May 9, 2010 | 1:56 pm
Two men were killed and four women hospitalized after at least one gunman opened fire in an unlicensed after-hours nightclub early Sunday, Oakland police said.
Investigators said the shooting took place around 2:45 a.m. in what they described as a warehouse-like building that had been converted into a club offering music, dancing and drinking.
When officers arrived, they found the two men dead at the scene. One of the four women hit by gunfire was considered badly wounded. Police did not know the condition of the other three women.
Police have not released any names or determined a motive for the shooting.
Crime Stoppers of Oakland and police are offering up to a $40,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

seriously though omar, that is the exact bullshit you hear conniving sf supes say in meetings on how to crack down on sf nightlife. how do you go from a headline about a shooting at a west oakland warehouse where a hip hop cd release party for "zulu the king", some bottom feeder who raps about selling drugs, making bail, and getting shot at, and extend it to sf's underground techno scene? because both are "unlicensed establishments"? good lord... posing a loaded statement like that demonstrates a total lack of understanding of music culture. i mean do you really think technophiles are showing up to events strapped, loaded on pcp, looking for that punk ass who copied his beats or sold crack on his turf so he can blast him and his whole crew to earn street cred?

1. It was in Oakland.
2. It was a hip-hop party.
3. It was a CD release party for "Zulu the King"
4. The shooting happened at 2:45am.
5. The party ended at 2:00am, peacefully.
6. The organizer of the party, Xavier Lowery (aka Zulu the King), had left after things wrapped up, and left to get something to eat when the shooting occured.
Comparing this to anything that may happen at the C# is both unwarranted(because shootings happen in REAL clubs, too, even when the top DJs in the world are playing...like PvD night a few years ago in SF) and how someone operates a party has much to do with the safety. If something is unlicensed, it doesn't many shit in regards to how safe a party is. That's up to the organizers largely. And if an underground is going on that you have any worries about, then just stay home.

you can say that about anything from church mass to broadway musicals to little league baseball. what is it you're proposing then? if someone wants to kill someone, they will do it anywhere, even at ruby skye. the fact that the venue is unlicensed has nothing to do with anything.
hip hop events have violent outbreaks on a regular basis whether they're at a house or a licensed concert hall. it's the culture of the music. people in that scene are programmed to have hypersensitive egos, to act on emotions, to disrespect people and property, to think violence solves problems, that breaking the law is commendable and cooperating with crime scene investigators is despicable, and material possessions are the sole measure of a man's worth. my point is people in the techno scene are none of that, especially not violent egomaniacs. that is the critically discerning factor on why shit like this would never happen at the compound.
