Should we nuke the oil leak?
The Soviets did it a number of times to stop large oil leaks and Obama just assigned a team of nuclear physicists to look into how to stop the leak (including one of the developers of the H-Bomb)... Could we be close to using a nuclear device to shut off this massive leak? Do we have much to lose?
Modern nuclear weapons are very "clean" with little ionizing radiation being released (most of the energy comes from the secondary fusion reaction, not the initial fission reaction). The risk of radiation contamination would be very little, and not even comparable to the damage that the oil and natural gas leaking is already causing.
Anyone else think this would be a viable solution?
