Tascam X-9 vs. Pioneer DJM-600

Hey guys,

I'm going to be purchasing one of the two mixers in my subject header, and wanted to know all of your experiences with either ones. Are they both good investments? Which one is a better investment? I really like the Tascam due to the more features, but if it's going to break down on me in a week, screw that.

Thanks in advance!

I would stay away from the X-9 for now. There have been problems reported over this mixer lately. Besides, I'm member of another board, and there it seems Tascam is playing a weird little game. Some guys have found numerous shops are claiming the X9 has been discontinued already and are trying to get rid of them as fast as possible. Upon asking the Tascam guys what the hell this was all about (on the Tascam fora), they denied all this but were so rude to ban everyone that said that. They definately have to hide something if you ask me.

The biggest drawback for me on the X9 is the EQ delay. Impossible to do fast EQ cuts because the digital EQ lags a lot (let's say you do a swift bass cut, it takes the sound about 1 second to reflect that change!!! A big no no if you ask me).

1 second? ugh? that's useless..i've played around with the 9 as well n i just didn't like the knobs and everything. they seemed very flimsy to me and not solid enough. you might also wanna check out the allen and heath Xone series.. they are great. they have no built in fx but then again the control form using say an outboard pioneer EFX500 is much better than the onboard contrl of the DJM600. it's much mure Musical and les limiting in my opinion..the drawback is thwt of course you have 1 fx set over the master outputs (unless you buy 2) rather than 2 for the individual channels. i prefer this as the additional control ovet the fx i think is well worth it. to each their own though so try them all and see what suits you. any good retailer should let yu play with it for 3o days n if you don't like it, allow you to return it.

What do you mean with only 1 effects set over the master?
Just route the effector through the aux channel, and return it to a line in as return channel (you have enough chans, so why bother).
Each channel can have it's effect then, and you just control the return with the extra channel you gave it.

Seems Tascam just made new eprom that seems to solve the EQ delay. Just another example that you'd better wait until that Tascam sorted out all their probs.

I actually have first hand experience with top of the range mixers...I demo them at work daily...I use a A&H 464 on my Friday night Residency, a Tascam X-9 on my saterday night residency and I own a DJM 600...

I prefer the X9; it has a nicer feel...has more to offer and in general is superior.

The X9 will be my next buy, for sure...I would advise you to have a good play or demo on both though; before making your decision.

Hmm it was exactly the opposite for me. The X9 felt tacky. Not near as solid as my Xone:62.

But I have to agree on something. Don't buy a mixer on opinions from others if possible. Try them yourself first.

I know this is kinda off subject but Tascam is still kinda new to the dj world and second they have done wonderful items in the past but there's been previous cases were the first releases were not top notch precision build and recalls were made.
dat all for me to say.
