I always thought it was stupid to judge a DJs abilities by the amount of ppl he brings out...

Can't they just be judged on their merits???

I preffered the old like the demo and give them a shot opening method...

Good luck dude...

Yeah I agree, but for the promoters it's for them to make money too right? Like you have to be able to bring a crowd or else no club would wanna book you.

Unfortunately it is still a damned business. And Businesses need to make money. Sucks but DJ's should be able to bring a crowd with them. You can't really impress an empty room now can you.

Nick its early enough that I may come...Have to work fridays and that makes it tough.

I read up to here n pretty much immediately stopped. Sorry Nick, but just as VDub said, it's total garbage that they hold you accountable for that. The promoters just want different ppl to come to the club n have you do their job for them. It's the absolute lowest thing a promoter can do to a DJ, is put them on the hook for a successful night or not. I know it's just a competition, but I could be the worst dj there but if I bring 100 people I could easily win over the best dj who brings nobody.
Seriously, all the best to you Nick, I'll sooooooo support you when you get a proper gig with people/club that appreciates the music you play and the technical aspect you can bring, and yes, I will read the rest of your post lol

It's a competition night, promoters wouldn't really be expecting lots of people to come out anyway. If they were good promoters and already had a reputation for throwing a good party. it shouldn't matter if the dj can impress an empty room on an off night or not, the promoters should already have the club filled/populated for the dj to play in in the first place.

He's hardly on the hook for a successful night. He's expected to
contribute to a successful night and probably not carry it by himself.

If someones name on my flyer ads zero value to the party goer because he/she doesn't have an already establish name, then they better be bringing enough people to pay their fee at the very least.

If people ask me to dj at their shows and want me to promote, I usually politely decline. I reserve those efforts for my own events at clubs I work at every week.

Good luck Nick! You have the right attitude, dood.

No, it's a popularity contest disguised as a DJ competition.
