I know a lot of people are going to be saying this is pointless, unnecessary and lucrative tech-ing up of a classic, so let's tell it how it is. I really love the original (Gargantuan) mix of this, I think it's one of the few "timeless" sounding dance records because it really transcends the style and the period... BUT if Forbes and May had never decided to revisit this track a few years later and redo it for a different context we'd never have had the Live Version. Or Xpander, for that matter.

Honestly, from the sample I think the Ballistic mix sounds really good, it takes the track in a direction it hasn't been before and even if that is trendy tech-house it certainly seems to work in this case. If you don't like these new mixes, then slate them. But let's not get all purist about it.

Yeah, they aren't too bad, albeit a little cookie-cutter tech house. I miss the lead though.

I agree with this to an extent. I'm def with you on the part about little bullet being a timeless classic, there is no doubting that (I've always been one to argue that the live version of little bullet is a contender for the perfect EDM track if there was ever a candidate). The part I'd debate with you is that when the revisting of little bullet was made in 1996 when sounds had not run it's course. Some will argue that it's just the sound of the time and they were following what sold which in all honesty could be true but the final product can not be disuted regardless of the reasoning.

Spooky haven't exactly been one's to set their own path in recent times; in fact they've been trend followers both as producers/DJ's for the past 3 years or so while touring with Sasha. As much as I'd like to think that they will revist previous works and create something as good as the rough copy of Xpander or the live version of little bullet, I would bet the house it's not going to happen. I respect you opinion on this ballistic remix but for me it's nothing I'd listen to again and follows the trend of mid 90's tracks spun by big name prog jocks being remixed into trendy beatport chart toppers (that recent humate-love stimulation remix package comes to mind as an example).

Anyways, I like you hope for something brilliant one day to come from Forbes/May because their early work is with out question the genius element of the EDM archive.

I could certainly say that doing a breakbeat-ish remix of Little Bullet in 1996 when progressive breaks were starting to come in was just updating the track for a trendy sound, but that's not the point. As you say, it's all about the final product. Judge these remixes on their quality.

Charlie said they were releasing this on their label, but that was a couple months ago. And that Silinder's 45 Remix was going to be released as well?

Ballistic Mix is ok, really isnt the same without that lead melody though

The High Velocity mix never had the lead melody either, and it was still great. I think the lack of the lead actually makes this work better as a totally new version. If it was just the famous hook in a tech house setting it'd probably sound much more generic.

I actually rather like the Ballistic mix.

Reminds me, I need to actually get a physical copy of Gargantuan this summer. Been meaning to pick that up for a while.
