Does anyone have any cool James Holden stories they want to share? I'll share one of mine.
While most of my incredible, intimate, and memorable musical experiences have been seeing a DJ play live at a club on a function one (or even better) sound system, I'd have to say that most of my incredible, intimate, and memorable musical experiences of James Holden have been in the comfort of my home. I can share my story about the first time I heard Balance 005 (in early 2003), but there is another story that stands out a little more at the moment (perhaps because of my current desire of wanting to "escape"). One memorable time in particular, I believe, was in early 2007 - or late 2006 (I think), but who can remember? I downloaded James Holden's Planet Rose live set, but hadn't had the time to listen to it for a few days.
One morning (which I remember clearly), while I was sitting at my office... papers stacked everywhere, clients taking too much energy from me, bosses not appreciating me, multi-tasking to meet deadlines, overwhelming workload - etc, I came to the conclusion that I just couldn't be at work any longer that day. I didn't care that I had to finish projects that were integral for my bosses. My sanity was more important. I knew of one thing that could help me forget everything, to just escape for a little while, to disconnect from the world - and that was to listen to James Holden's Planet Rose set. I decided to pretend I was "sick" and call it an early day. I left work around 11am and drove home.
On my drive home, the anticipation of hearing his Planet Rose set was building up. I couldn't wait to hear what mind-blowing treats he had created & molded together in this set. When I finally got home, I immediately changed into something more comfortable, closed all the windows, doors, blinds, and distractions from the outside world, turned on my computer, and put on his set. I can't exactly tell you what happened much after that point, because I don't really remember mentally or physically being there for the next 3 hours (which is how long the Planet Rose set was). All I can say though, is thank you so much to James Holden, for helping me & giving me the medicine I needed to escape, during my time of need.
Does anyone have that set by any chance? I lost it a couple years ago when my computer crashed!
