Dumb Ass Monitor Question

Right, this is a dumb fuck question, but so what.

Leaving monitors on (in this case Fostex PM1) does this consume power (if so how much) compared to running them kicking out volume.

I notice they are warm so they must be using power, but how much? Is it based on volume?

search standby power consumption on their website.
i guess a couple of watts, maybe 5-10. its nothing to save on your bill but its a little to save when its comes to time before service on the gear by not turning it on and off too often. usualy i let my gear be on from when i get home from work and until i get to bed (that is if i plan to use it at all that day - stuff sounds better when warm).

Yes speakers consume energy when not actually being used but still switched on. Class A equipment or badly design kit (basically the extremes of the spectrums) consume the most but you're fostex will use just a little.

I'm a miser though. I switch off absoltely everything before I go to sllep and it does make a big difference to my power consumption and bill.

YEah as I thought, since they do heat up, not massively, but enough and they are old monitors too.

But I've heard horror stories of certain equipment using the same power passively as they do when in full use.

I had a plug from N-Power (UK Electric company) and it turned off power to peripheral units if the main power source wasn't drawing power (e.g. pc tower) this worked fantastic till I went laptop, and tried to use the thing using my mixer, but for whatever reason my mixer must switch itself off or something temporarily, because it kept tripping this switch.

Needless to say switching off my gear is annoying last thing at night before sleep. They make no hum like a pc, and bed is just too cosy.
