Highlights of the CDJ-850 include:

Pro-series Design And Exacting Features – Inheriting the club standard layout and precise control features of its professional CDJ series, the CDJ-850 integrates a large 206mm jog dial for continuous free and easy control along with a rotary selector and browse buttons integrated within the display.

Included rekordbox Software – Pioneer’s new exclusive DJ music management software makes it easy for home DJs to effortlessly organize their entire music library as it analyzes files (settings, creating playlists, saving histories) to their custom specifications. As used by professionals to optimize DJ play, the software enables users to:

Analyze data such as the Wave, Beat Grid, BPM, and ID3 Tag1 of music files

Create and edits playlists
Save history of music files played on the CDJ-850

USB Export Capability – DJs using the rekordbox software can easily export their music files and custom managed data onto a USB device and quickly plug in directly to the CDJ-850 and access tracks without the need to be linked to a PC. Play histories on the CDJ-850 are automatically recorded onto rekordbox via connected USB device for the DJ’s next session which makes the cycle of music file management, DJ play and preparation for future sessions very simple.

User Interface – The display and user interface of the player is designed for quick and fluid music selection. Combined with its rotary selector, navigation through music lists (title, artist, BPM, etc.) is extremely fast and easy. The WAVE display enables smooth DJ play because the user can visually analyze the flow and dynamics of the entire song.

DJ Software Control and Audio Interface – The CDJ-850 multi-media player features MIDI, enabling control of various DJ software running on a laptop. With the use of the built-in USB HID interface, the CDJ-850 can also control more complex operations of DJ software without the need for a control disc. For additional versatility, the player can also be used as a PC audio interface.

Tag List Function – Equipped with an editable Tag List functionality, users of the player can easily register tracks during play or preview to add to their playlist queue. The song order in the Tag List can be altered and saved as a playlist in rekordbox.

Other features include:

Auto Beat Loop function creates a beat loop with a touch of a button.
Four levels3 of settings can be made for the maximum variation range of a song's tempo (±6%, ±10%, ±16% and WIDE).
Resume functionality plays music from where it was left off when removed and later reloaded.
Excellent vibration-resistance due to built-in Shock-Proof Memory4 and Floating Architecture.

Anyone know off hand what the difference between the 900 and 850 is then? This just confuses me.

I think it's about time to upgrade from my 1000 MK2's and go USB with their new stuff. I'd rather run these and USB than laptop anyday.

Hold your horses. According to Scratchworx, the new CDJ 850 won't let you "share" your USB device like the 2000 & 900 do. That means u need two USB drives.

To clarify for readers, the USB connection on the face is for a device, the USB connection on the back is for the soundcard and MIDI/HID control, but there is no 'sharing'; you need one USB device per player to play music.

Soooo… at first glance, the 850 is an 800 with a new screen. But digging deeper, you'll soon see a few useful updates that makes the 850 a worthy product rather than just a spit and polish affair. It is largely the same at first glance - yes there is a new screen, but strangely not tilted like the 900 and 2000. I guess that's just for pros.

This update is all about adding the new Pioneer rekordbox workflow. So you can now organise your library just like with the 350, 900 and 2000s and use the same music on any of these units. One key feature missing here are hot cues. The 800 before it lacked them and so does the 850. Like slanty screens, it seems they're for pros only.

This rekordbox implementation does however lack the rather wonderful link feature. And it also seems that you can't share a pair of 850s over USB either. Shame - that's really handy. Looks like you'll need to step up to the 900s to experience the better part of rekordbox functionality.

But what the 850 does get is MIDI and more importantly HID. So the wonderful world of control disk free DVS rocking is now open to you. Well once the various DVS makers release updates to make it happen of course.

900 vs. 850

For those comparing these two players, there are a few small differences on the 850:

- no digital out
- no slip mode
- no secondary timings on the beat cutters
- display is 2 lines and a waveform (vs. 3+info and a waveform)
- the time information is displayed smaller than on the 900

...and one big difference...

- no LINK function

I'm cool with that. I would bring 3 mirror drives anyway.

what a fuckin waste of money! for $1200 you could get the xone:dx which would let you do waaaaay more than pioneer and their overpriced crap lets you do. "semi-pro djs" hahaha what condescending retarded pr, what a joke...not to mention the fact that immediately after buying this you'd just be lusting after the 2000s.

get a good midi controller, a good sound card, and a copy of traktor and you'd be able to do way more than a pair of 850s or 900s would let you do...

unless you have all the money in the world then just buy the 2000s I'm sure they're awesome

For a company that has tried to consolidate over the last few years, they sure seem to be OVER-expanding in our market lately, don't they?

I don't care to have a huge effects box...I'd rather choose tracks that don't need all that shit to sound good. I still prefer to play on decks of some sort rather than point and click Not to sound like an ass, but the money isn't that bad. I have no problem dropping that on gear I really like/prefer using.

yeah absolutely thats why the djm-2000 is retarded, why the fuck do you need 6 flangers...all I'm saying here is pioneer is marketing this as OOOH LOOK WHAT YOU CAN DO NOW SPEND ALL THIS MONEY when in reality if you were really worried about groundbreaking features you could, for the money, go get something that allows you do much much more....

I am the same way, give me a nice analog mixer and a pair of 1200s or cdj1000s and lets just go a to b...less is definitely more but all this bullshit pioneer marketing trying to convince you that the new cdjs let you do all this shit that software cant do is just plain false

not to mention the fact that you now have to drop cash on a DVS AND CDJS just to use this shit without burning tons of cds (which defeats the purpose of buying these new cdjs IMO)..I pity the fool that buys this crap, cdj-1000s aint broke so dont fix it...

cdj2000 is another story however and is also a completely different price point
