Soundfonts/Romplers/VSTi's for real orchestral instruments?

Real instruments play a pretty big part in my music, specifically woodwinds and strings, and I'm trying to find more samples and sounds to utilize.. I've more or less exhausted what little I have through Omnisphere and the few soundfonts I've picked up throughout the years.

I'm looking for stuff with a high amount of variability in the timbres, instruments that have a wide range of timbres so you can really get some expressive sounds out of it.. Stuff like the instrument in this track, that starts at 2:09:

I'm familiar with East West's stuff but fucking hell is it expensive, are there really any other alternatives for instruments that sound that real? I'll start saving up for something from EW if I have to but I'm just wondering if any of you guys have come across anything else.

LASS for strings
WIVI for winds and brass
Or if you have a few gs floating around, VSL

B- for orchestration

trance like that makes me shudder like if your 8 and your uncle grabbed your genitals.

Oh, wow, LASS sounds incredible, that's exactly what I was looking for. Price tag is way beyond what I can afford though.. but the first chair bundle might be more what I need anyway. WIVI sounds great too.. but wow. I'll probably be happy with just LASS.

Thanks

so fucking download it

Honestly, if you can't afford it but your art needs it, just download the fucking thing and pay for it when you can. The only person you have to answer in regards to morals is yourself so if you mean to buy it , then just get it now. Aren't you a student ?

They aren't losing out on money if you can't afford it in the first place. I once used the east west and VSL old giga format when I was in school but once I started working, I started buying stuff. Don't be such a dork.

Well, for one thing:

I managed to download Omnnisphere which was six separate torrents that were around 50 gigs total, but it took me almost 3 months to do. The sheer size of libraries like these makes it a complete pain in the ass to try and download them, and as much as I'd rather torrent them, buying them is sometimes the only option. There's not a whole lot of people seeding giant sample libraries, even on Demonoid.

I'd gladly try to download LASS but I'm on a shared network with two roommates now and I don't think they'd appreciate their already shitty connection being made shittier for the whole first semester because I'm downloading 45 gigabytes at 15 kbps. Buying's not the only option but it's a hell of a lot easier.

i'm sure swearing alot. I would tell you where to get it but I suppose that would be against the rules. I just find it funny how everyone here puts on the guise that they buy everything but it is quite obvious most people here that aren't even making money on their music are probably using cracks. I mean shit, Andy Blueman probably has a shit load of cracks. Buy it if you can but the world isn't going to stop turning if you write them a post dated check sometime in 5 years.

Yeah I know. I haven't paid a single dime towards my VST's and I have plenty of them. I also haven't made a dime from my music, so whatever, no harm done if I wouldn't have bought them otherwise like you said. Getting my hands on sample libraries like EW is too hard atm though

I'd also bet Blueman cracks his stuff, all the guy has is a PC full of software.

Also it's probably not against the rules to PM where to get stuff like this. I certainly wouldn't rat you out

audiofarm naturally

I can understand not admitting to using them as if you do start releasing, well it sort of compromises your integrity but the people that take the holier than thou stance, well i'm pretty sure they all have the waves packs on their computers.

Do you have Kontakt? If not, I recommend it - the factory library has a lot of usable orchestral sounds, but you can always expand it later with 3rd-party libraries.

EWQL had some pretty insane sales going on all summer long (most titles for $195). I'd keep an eye out for them because they run some very good deals on occasion, including their 2-for-1 sales that they seem to run about every six months.

I bought Silk and Gypsy. The flamenco guitar is worth it alone. I don't care for their orchestral stuff but some of the more esoteric stuff is neat. My girlfriend was in France for 2 months so I bought WIVI, those 2 libraries and an ipad. fair is fair.

I'm a Film composer, so from my point of view I'd advise you to get LASS and Symphobia, they're great in combination.
Eventhough I had to save up for some time to buy them, they're still absolutely worth it. Chances are you'll realise that Orchestral music can be much more fun than Trance.

Here's one of my recent short projects I did for fun (fairly straight forward, but you get the picture)

Is Kontakt what you use for your pianos, and are you using the stock sounds?
