It’s been 20 years in the music scene for King Britt and his projects, collaborations and affiliations are always truly mind-blowing. He started out as 'Silkworm' in the groundbreaking, Grammy Award winning Digable Planets. After conquering hip hop he starting Ovum Recordings with Josh Wink, spreading his love for electronic dance music to the world. Along the way he has also produced platinum remixes for Macy Gray, Solange, Donna Lewis and worked with hundreds of others, including Toronto’s Ivana Santilli, Zaki Ibrahim and Bedouin Soundclash. In 2007 he received the highest grant in the USA as the first DJ/producer to win The Pew Fellowship in the Arts Award, a truly amazing achievement.
He also continues to build his empire, FiveSixMedia, and in his own words Britt says, “My label and company, FiveSixMedia, sets the example of an individual who is able to live outside the box and show what freedom truly is. Doing my own thing on my own time and assisting others to move into that space as well. The future is bright because I say it is. Stop and smell the flowers...”
His latest album 'Intricate Beauty', released in April, is the final “conventional” dance album King Britt will ever make. And how fitting this final chapter also marks King’s first ever release on seminal house music label Nervous Records. This is the seal of quality. Don’t worry, though, King Britt’s not going anywhere as an artist. He’ll be concentrating on more experimental based music and searching for new avenues to help push the live electronic improvisational end of performance.
Beyond the album, this is a period of great change for King Britt. Not only is he working in a new studio but he’s also cleansed spiritually, something that has also enabled him to enter into a new creative space with his latest venture, producing the upcoming Bedouin Soundclash album, out late in September, which is being called “by far their best sounding recording yet”.
Fossils unite this Friday at Our House for a rare, intimate DJ set from the wildly talented, KING BRITT. The King is back... LET’s DANCE!!!
