ultra music festival

hello all,

I have never been to an electronic music festival before or too many live dj gigs for that matter. But after watching a couple of videos on you tube of various festivals (UMF in particular), i have decided that I am going to do this! I have always wanted to, but never consciously planned for it.

I am excited just thinking about it going. Can't wait to experience it!

Can some of the more experienced TAs set me in the right direction by answering the following questions? Now obviously, everyone's answers to the following questions will vary, but I'm sure it will help me get a better idea of what to expect and how to prepare for it.

1) how much will a 2-3 day trip to Miami cost? (accommodation, food and other expenses which might come along the way which one as inexperienced as me might not anticipate)

2)Are 2-3 days enough or should one spend more or less time there

3)How would you suggest one divide his/her time when attending this festival? I want to make sure I get the best out of it and take home with me a memorable experience.

4)Any other tips or suggestions? Any advice for a newbie?

Please feel free to share your experiences and memorable happenings while attending these events. I would love to hear what you have to say.

Thank you in advance for reading, and taking out the time to sharing your thoughts.

Ultra and WMC rocks! I've done it 2 years in a row.

1) Cost: Miami is expensive! BOOK EARLY! You could find hotels for $130-$150 a night booking early on in South Beach, and that will change to $280-$350 a month or two before the event.

Club events cover is varied from $30 or so to $150ish (!)for Guetta or other Top 5 DJs. Check wantickets.com. Drinks are expensive ($15 or so depending on the club)! Then again, there are a lot of talented DJs less mainstream DJs available for cheaper. A lot of parties.

Pool Parties! Boat Parties! Beach Parties! These all cost $$$, save for some free sponsored pool parties. Check wantickets.com and theres always a thread on tranceaddict with all the events. Actually, there are probably a lot of first time guides on here too, so I'm probably wasting my time.

2) Depending on the amount of partying you do, you could be there almost all week, for the entire WMC, to the Sunday closing parties.

3) Go see the DJs you want to see. Plan it out loosely before hand. Be sure to check out the Carl Cox tent! Go to afterparties afterword: be aware that if you're going back to your hotel (to change or whatever) leave the festival a little early if you're staying in south beach. Or you could walk to a club on the mainland (Space, Grand Central, lots others) all dirty lol, but make sure you have appropriate club wear.

4) Don't rent a car (made that mistake the first year). Cabs are reasonable, and public transit is available if you're on a budget. BUY EVENT TICKETS IN ADVANCE! I cannot stress this enough. Not only is it cheaper, but you don't wait in line. And lines can be over 2 hours (crazy). If you're doing substances of any kind, do some research/get connections because a LOT of crap floods into Miami at this time.

thank you for all your responses...the serious ones and the funny ones alike...I will try searching these forums for first time guides as one of you suggested...by the sound of it, this trip could get a little expensive...I'm gonna start saving up from right now...gotta do this!

thank you all again

Just to let you know, the actual Ultra Music Festival has been extended to a 3 day festival next year.

You could go to Miami just for say 3 or 4 days, but I highly recommend staying for a week as there are plenty of other things going on. It's not cheap though, so it would all depend on your budget.
